Chattanooga’s Live Music Scene: Infinite Orange

I was working stage security at Riverbend last year when I was given my assignment for the evening – the stage by the Art Museum. The first band up was a group of Soddy-Daisy High School rockers, the band Infinite Orange. I couldn’t imagine what I had done wrong to have deserved this. I had visions of terribly loud, obnoxious music, blasting away right in my ears. Don’t get me wrong, I love all kinds of music, but I don’t like noise.

As usual, I was wrong. Again. These guys rock. Forget the fact they are teenagers still in high school. It would be an insult to say they are pretty good, for high school kids. They are darn good, without any reference to age.

Nick Lutsko, Austin Leavell and Ryan Guza make up this band. Just the three of them. Nick plays the lead guitar and the lead vocals, Austin plays bass and Ryan plays the drums. All three of them play way beyond their years of experience would indicate.

I think they impressed me most with their stage presence. One would think they had been playing together for twenty years. They play to the crowd, which was substantial at Riverbend. They mix things up with some original songs, along with some rock standards. The crowd went crazy for them, and I could see why. Nick plays the guitar licks like any good pro, including playing the guitar behind his back, which sent the crowd into an appreciative frenzy. Ryan got in a couple good drum solos that brought huge applause, too. Austin plays a great bass, solid in every song.
This is a good band, and whether you are 15 or 55, if you get a chance to hear them, I would highly recommend it.

This band will be at a Chattanooga State Spring concert on Friday, March 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. They also have gigs in Knoxville and Atlanta coming up soon. Their website is www.myspace.com/infiniteorange - THE CHATTANOOGAN.COM

"Band review - Infinite Orange"

I recently had the opportunity to see the band Infinite Orange at Riverbend this year. Luckily, I was working stage security for that show and had an up close look at these guys from Soddy-Daisy.

These dudes may be high school students, but they are the real deal. There are only three of them. Nicholas Lutsko, vocalist and guitarist, bassist Austin Leavell and drummer Ryan Guza make up the band. From my observation at the stage front, they had excellent parental support, as well. Thats cool.

At Riverbend, they played some original material and some covers, all with excellent execution and delivery. Actually, its amazing there are only three of them. Their sound is such that it seems like a 4 or 5 piece band is playing.

Another thing that was impressive - their stage presence. They played like seasoned pros. The audience seemed to love the performance and they played to the crowd very well.

Their website is http://www.myspace.com/infiniteorange. Crank it up and take a listen. You never know, someday, you may be paying to hear these guys. - 2007 Riverbend Review Web Blog

Bio

Infinite Orange began in 2003, collaborating in Jr High School playing at school functions, parties, and talent shows. We did not want to be "just another cover band". With each member working to perfect our own talents, we have combined our skills to create our own fresh, unique sound. Influenced by the songwriting talents of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, mixed with the improvisational licks of the jam band scene - along with radio favorites Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Dave Matthews Band to name a few, our music has continued to evolve. As described by Ted Reynolds, Music Writer/ 91.5FM, the WAWL… "Psychedelic folk-rock, with a dash of reggae to spice things up, this band has gotten popular quick". We have performed at every major event in the Chattanooga area: RiverBend, Nightfall, Between the Bridges, and WON the Kidney Foundation's The Big Gig - a competition of the battle of the bands from Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. The band and our music were featured in the PBS documentary "Road To RiverBend", which aired June and July of 2007.
