"Genres are overrated," In, Flew Ants frontman Scot Stewart wrote on his band's MySpace blog back in 2008, attempting to explain his inability or unwillingness to describe his group's musical output. Fast-forward to today, and that venture seems even more futile. After three years together, the curiously named Chicago three-piece seems to have confidently settled into its own shape-shifting niche on a pair of debut albums, both of which will be given away for free at this release show. Welcomed Imperfection and Without Disclaimer reveal an indie-pop band with distinct multiple personalities, all of whom take turns playing a song—from the skittering, throbbing "It's Like An Era (Stamp 24)" to the minor-key, banjo-driven "My Empty Sink (Banjo 13)," which somehow manages to make sleigh bells sound sad. - A.V.
