ING-J

Ing-j (born. oct 18, 1981, Bod¿, Norway) is a confessional alternative singer/songwriter, inspired by music, recently signed by Vurse management and the former singer for COAX. Ing-j was raised on a sheep farm in the north of Norway, on the cold island of Gjer¿y. Her first 4 years were spent there before her family decided to move south, to Hamar, Norway. She began playing guitar and writing songs from an early age. As a 15-year-old, her first band Eruptiva was founded. The band was a local success and was awarded several prizes for outstanding performances. Craving further exploration with her vocal expression she and some friends started Coax, an alternative and theatrical band looking for musical identity. The band mixed and transformed different styles such as circus, rock, grunge and indie music and dazzled their audiences with theatrical stage performances. Here she found ways of interpreting dramatic and playful vocals. She left The band in 2004. In the same year Ing-j met the guitarist Dozzy, founding member of the band Njava, who has worked with artists like Deep forest, Ben Harper. Ing-j and Dozzy met at a cafŽ in downtown Oslo through a friend, who was meeting Dozzy for a chat, but during constant interruptions from his friend mobile phone Ing-j was compelled to interrogate Dozzy about his life and work...which led to a second meeting discussing musical influences on a deeper level, including Ing-j's solo career, as Dozzy had now heard Ing-j's demo recording and saw her potential and encouraged her to develop her own music more, instead of remaining in the style of the band she was in. Through their growing friendship they started experimenting together musically, and the ensuing recording sessions led to new songs being written and Ing-j was inspired to broaden her musical expression and to take to the stage with her own material for the first time. This push towards self-expression was a long time coming and in Dozzy she had found a true mentor. Ing-j is releasing a her debut album "SO COLD" early 2008 and plans to tour Europe to promote the album. The album is already picking up great acclaim via the web being compared to early Portishead and Patti Smith, and even Bjork, perhaps due to the geographic cultural similarities. Ing-j does have several voices that she likes to play with within each song, throwing the listener into an emotional explosion of passion, intrigue, mystery and a feeling of raw energy.
