"review of P.S. i cuddle a box"

first release on ultra indie label moshi moshi..a great name for a label. the music - well, scratchy guitar based songs and strange melodies which at first do not appeal and require several exposures before the weirdness subsides and the listener accepts the excellence within.
there is a variety across the short 30 odd minutes which iswonderfully challenging.it's been many years since i heard a casio rinky dink drum pattern - nice. across most of the songs the vocals are treated, phased, slightly distorted, which always appeals as it adds an interesting twist and avoids the standard indie guitar pop song sound. i have yet to decipher what the words are all about,i'm sure they are obtuse like the artowrk on the cover.
i expected lo-fi tweeness - instead this is lo-fi greatness.
very original..and increasingly listenable with time.

(p.s. this was written last year (2002) since then this lp has increased in my estimation. in fact i rate this as one of my all time faves. honest) - ireallylovemusic

"In Passing ; review of P.S. i cuddle a box"

A great record on a great (though tiny)UK label. Everything we have heard form the Moshi Moshi label so far we recommend, but Ingo Star Cruiser is the best of the lot. Funny as shit, and funky like Ween at the their best. Listen here. - Free Williamsburg

"Ingo Star Cruiser - P.S. i cuddle a box (UK import)"

Plaintive indie and heartfelt longing, and by god, a downright filthy and disturbing cover art hints that Pete Ingo is smirking beneath all that good boy exterior. Seemingly nice, but with a delightfully twisted core. - Meglo-cds

"Whilstling Sounds of a Falling Projectile 7""

Sandwiched somehwere between angular UK guitar pop, slow britpop, and 60's psych, arise this pair of songs to weep you away! Influence broadly include Super Furry Animals, High Llamas and Pavement. - tonevendor.com

"Glastonbury Live Review"

In the race for the prize that was the PlayLouder Glastonbury Unsigned competition you, darling public, chose The Boxer Rebellion and Ingo Star Cruiser as your Will and Gareth. So which does that make Pete Ingo? Well, during 'Hands Up Who's Happy At The Airport' he refers to himself "dancing like a dick" which, having seen the 'Spirit In The Sky' video, should by rights make him Gareth. (Disappointingly, though, we're spared Pete's purportedly dickish dancing. Aw!) Then again, he's got a remarkably rangey voice, switching from seedy Bobby Gillespie whisper-rasp to a Curt Smith-style gusset-clamping woo with affable regularity, which is much more of a Will thing to do. Though it's unlikely that either of the pair would ever have gone on stage and said "Do I look like I'm bricking it?".

And, while we come to think of it, it's fairly certain that neither'll ever show up somewhere and sing 'My Name Is Shit' or, indeed, 'Fucked' (introduced with the charming remark "You all look very... This one's called 'Fucked'!"), but such is par for the course in world of Ingo. His a-man-some-twangs-and-a-DAT setup's liable to win him comparisons to the Badly Drawn Boy of those early hen's-teeth EPs, but he's actually a somewhat different kettle of cod, still hanging by his fingertips to the leftest edge of pop but in a far less gnarly and rather more eerily questive way, with him singing self-effacingly about events taking less-than-welcome turns as 'Da Da Da'-ish bips go pulsing past or strumming sunsheeeeeeeeyineily across cloudy settings. Plus! unlike anybody else - at least since Eno's little 70s blip - he's obsessed with airports. Fair enough, really, as long as it leads to songs like the marvellous 'Wake Up Rub', a fantastically 'Strawberry Fields'ian travelogue that, possibly even to Mr Ingo's surprise, niffs a bit of hit. An idol-in-waiting then? Maybe so. Top choice regardless, voters!

Bio

Made in one room in Dorset, Countryside England Late in the 20th Century
Ingo Star Cruiser is one man, we call him Pete, who has handsomely paid a
vast array of musicians to be his friends thru the years.
The Debut release 'ps i cuddle a box' (moshi moshi recorded) in 2000 is a
diverse collection of broken beats and beautiful tin can melodies that seem
to hang together on a whisp of a drunken spiders web. Its like Pavement were
screwing Sparklehorse in the Super Furries Tank while Prince tossed on.
After Giggling thru 2001 and re-locating to London, collaborations followed.
With Manchester's Queen of a boom and a bip 'The King of Woolworths' and
Nu-Northern Soul terrorists 'Noonday Underground', both projects meeting with
critical acclaim, meaning they sold jeff all.
After a year long break through depression it was time to start showing off
again. 2003 saw an extensive touring schedule that took in all of the
British isles including Glastonbury Festival and three weeks in New York.
Taking in mainstream venues CBGB and the Lit Lounge, Pete also played at any
Gallery, subway station and open mike he was offered. With a live show as
vital as it is unpredictable some of the audience left confused, some left
before the end. No-one ever leaves indifferent.
During a summer break Ingo started recording the bulk of the second long
player, a travel odyssey based around planes and ports. More focussed in its
songwriting than 'box', it encompasses the same dizzy melodic range while
harpooning it to a fat back beat.
2004 sees the album complete, a porn soundtrack under his belt (Supercult),
and more and more shows including a return to New York.
