"In Medias Res "Red Apples" (Smog cover)"

By Gregory Adams
Vancouver's In Medias Res are set to hit the road later this month for a few Canadian shows, and while they still have yet to release any original material since 2011's It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out LP, they've at least unveiled a new cover of Smog's "Red Apples."

While the moody interpretation of Bill Callahan's song initially skids across a glacial synthscape, the track eventually cascades into a sonically oppressive wonderwall of drum clatter, spiralling guitar distortion and leader Andrew Lee's plaintive moans.

"'Red Apples' is a song that I have been covering for the past three years," Lee said in a statement. "I admire Bill Callahan for his song writing and his delivery but I find this song to have a strange meta-narrative type thing happening. It's a retelling of strange dream about a widowed woman who has possibly started a new relationship. But her husband keeps showing up with Apples and that just creeps me out."

You can check out the song in a video featuring some footage from Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 film Stalker, or nab the song over on In Medias Res' Bandcamp page. You can peep their tour itinerary below as well.

Tour dates:

4/13 Toronto, ON - P|M Gallery
?4/16 Montreal, QC - Le Cagibi
?4/20 Winnipeg, MB - Jesse's Manor - Exclaim!

"In Medias Res "Hollis" (video)"

By Philip James de Vries
In Medias Res have released a new video for "Hollis," the second single from It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out.

The Vancouver-based group showcase visuals here that, while unsettling at points, are well-matched to the nonchalant vibes of "Hollis." Directed by Vancouver's Andy Dixon (aka Secret Mommy), the clip's overlaying facial shots contort the brain's perception of what a face usually looks like, creating a complex visual anomaly that can't quite be deciphered.

Check out the video for yourself below.

Along with the video, the band have some Canadian tour dates, as well as a few in the U.S., coming up. You can see the schedule below.
