On ne pourra pas reprocher à la formation I.No son manque de ténacité. Après sa victoire à l'édition 2008 de Global Battle of the Bands à Québec et quelques premières parties pour le chanteur David Usher, le quatuor de Québec a remporté une bourse de 5000 $ au mois de juillet dernier au festival FestiVoix à Trois-Rivières, dans un concours parrainé par Rythme FM. Une bourse inespérée pour la formation qui s'apprêtait à compléter l'enregistrement de son premier EP.
Amélie Nault (voix) et Olivier Beaulieu (batterie) ont amorcé ce parcours exemplaire tout en s'adjoignant les services d'Alex Blais (basse) et Simon Pedneault (guitare). Ce dernier est guitariste au sein du groupe Who Are You, et sa touche si singulière nous rappelle le doigté de Marc Ribot (Tom Waits). Même son collègue au sein de Who Are You, Josué Beaucage, ajoute sa signature à ce EP ancré dans une pop atypique, collaborant à titre de réalisateur et de coproducteur.
Une synergie qui a porté fruit et qui met en évidence la voix de l'interprète qui a choisi l'anglais dans cet exercice où les styles s'entrecroisent. Bathtub se montre audacieuse dans les percussions et le folk vient teinter ce répertoire avec Troubled Waters, sans aucun doute la plus évocatrice des quatre pièces qui nous sont proposées sur ce disque.
En attendant le lancement officiel, qui devrait avoir lieu au mois d'octobre, I.No se produira à Envol & Macadam le 11 septembre sur la scène Première Ovation à l'îlot Fleurie, en compagnie des groupes Zebra Zone, Foxy Sharam et The Sounds. Ouverture du site à 18h.

I.No consists of four multi-talented musicians from Quebec City, Canada. Lead singer Amy and drummer Olivier started the band as a duet a couple of years ago. The project received so much interest that it pushed the two musicians to take the project more seriously and add Alex Blais (bass), and Simon Pedneault (guitar), the best musicians in town, to their band. I.No's first show as a band was at the Global Battle of the Bands contest presented by Envol et Macadam, which was held in early 2008. To the bands surprise, they won the contest in their region. Before heading to Montreal for the grand finale, they made a brief stop in Trois-Rivières to open for David Usher. Many shows have followed since, the band has had the chance to play at Le Cercle, the Cabaret du Capitole (opening up for Clement Jacques), La Casbah and most recently opened for the Swedish band The Sounds at Envol et Macadam in September. This summer, the band also took home the $5000 prize for "Le plus beau rythme de la Mauricie" at the Festivoix in Trois-Rivières. This money helped fund their first self-titled EP, which was released in August 2009. I.No is pop/folk/soul/rock music filled with hearts, ghosts and turmoil.
