Bio

Interstellar is a Toronto-based group, formed in 1998 by the duo of Rob Boak (formerly in Speed Orchid), and Denis Dufour. The project was originally conceived as an opportunity for the two multi-instrumentalists to explore different musical ideas through songwriting and home recording, inspired by space rock (of the 60's and 90's), post-rock, electronic music, dub, jazz, and other inventive, atmospheric musical forms. Interstellar has evolved through different line-ups over the last six years to augment its live shows and collaborate on its recordings.

Interstellar's debut CD was "Late Night Tea", released in early 2000 on the now-defunct label Mother Superior Records. The CD was well received, and Interstellar performed several live shows in support of the album, including a spot as part of the ongoing Wavelength series in Toronto. Between Interstellar albums, Rob joined the psychedelic group Mean Red Spiders for two years and contributed to their third CD, "Still Life Fast Moving", released by the label Teenage USA in 2003.

Interstellar continued to record new material between 2000 and 2003, and joined the Plan Eleven label in July of 2003. Their latest CD is "ToSleepToDreamToWake", available February 17th on Plan Eleven. The album is a mix of instrumental and vocal tracks, merging electronic loops, guitars, vocals, samples, analogue synthesizers and drums to create a distinctive collection of songs that inspire the imagination and sooth the soul. Guests on "ToSleepToDreamToWake" include vocalist Lisa Nighswander and drummer Adam Rosen (both from Mean Red Spiders), and Jeff McMurrich (Infinite Systems), who mixed & mastered both albums.
