"At The Show: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Feb. 21st 09"

Arrogantly, I did not anticipate being blown away that night but IN THIS STYLE did just that. Now, normally I try to be sparse in my "sounds like" name dropping but that night, so many good bands flew through my head. Wanna hear about it? Sure you do. Minus The Bear, Engine Down, Yukatan (Iceland), Circa Survive, Bear Vs Shark, The Fall Of Troy, Supine To Sit and slightly more polished Bughummer... I mean... I don't know what I mean but, you catch my drift. But that being said, although I hear echoes of these bands in IN THIS STYLE, I'll go on record saying that they have their own style, their own vibe. This is largely due to the particular use of keyboards, characteristic, creative and mature drumming, heavy and somewhat muddy sound (that night at least) and the fact that the singer sounds like he was in Texas Is The Reason.
Odd time signatures, unconventional arrangements, off-beat riffing and drums and a bald take on what is essentially young men's prog rock - all this I condone and applaud. But sometimes they got a bit carried away in the prog department which upset the flow and groove in some parts of their songs.
I hope these guys are hard workers when it comes to hyping their own shows 'cause I don't want to miss the next one.

Bio

The right hand side of In This Style`s tour van- written in permanently glued duct tape lettering- speaks for the band probably better than anything else when it screams upon the rest of the world;
``Cool Patrol.``
And while this good humored, novel (though admittedly sardonic) announcement is more of a joke than a serious statement, it speaks wonders for the character of both the music and members of In This Style.
Created with the ascendancy of an urge to conceive a musical act as interesting and diverse as it`s influences, In This Style commands a unique approach to it`s music. The four piece band based out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia has been quickly hammering down the walls of the local and surrounding music scenes with their infectiously catchy yet instrumentally progressive blend of heavy and light, of acoustic and hard rock elements- as well as much, much more in between.
Since beginning as a solo act performed by singer Andrew Wiseman in 2005, In This Style has been faced with numerous obstacles including the departure of four separate members and the release of their first cd entitled "The Escape EP" (2008). Having finally found a comfortable and secure lineup, In This Style is currently in the process of self engineering their first full length (six song) release, to be called "/Sarcasm." The cd will be publicly available in September, 2009, at which point the band will proceed to tour in support of the release throughout the rest of Canada.
