Local rock outfit In Transformation has found a fitting place for its hard-rocking tunes: a computer racing simulator

Rock 'n' roll + fast cars = the perfect combo. Local hard rockers In Transformation are well aware that motorsports and metal are made for each other. The band's song Redline is featured on North American Grand Touring, a game for the computer racing simulator rFactor.
"I race a lot online," says Dave Thiessen, In Transformation's vocalist, who is joined in the band by drummer Garry Moir, guitarist Kevin Szarkiewitcz and bassist Dave Proulx. "It started as a hobby and it turned into sort of a lifestyle. I got to know a lot of people in the Sim community. It's ridiculous how big it is. When I found The US Pits, they were advertising looking for music. I sent them something brand new and they were all over it."
Sticking to the speedway, In Transformation has also been featured on the Australian race radio show, Live Race Call, as well as on the N-er-G Hour, a live call-in NASCAR show on 95.7 The Wolf in Fredericton, N.B. All this auto talk makes sense as In Transformation play pedal-to-the-metal, full-throttle rock that is shaped by a variety of influences.
"I grew up with Mötley Crüe, Judas Priest, Kiss," Thiessen, 35, says. "Then, in my 20s, it was Tool, Rage Against the Machine and Pearl Jam. Kevin, he's 23, and he's throwing stuff like Bullet for my Valentine and Thrice at me. So I'm taking what I learned from Eddie Vedder, Gord Downie and all those guys and trying to apply it to his new style of guitar playing. It gives us a little different sound in that way."
Formed in 2006, In Transformation's recording history is summed up by a two- song self-released EP and two online singles, which can be heard at the band's MySpace page: www.myspace.com/intransformation. Thiessen says the band is in the midst of recording six more songs, all of which will be played at the band's upcoming gig, Saturday at Wise Guy's.
"We have this new stuff and I really want people to hear it," Thiessen says. "We've been sitting on these four songs that I really don't think are the best we have. I'm excited because the new stuff is turning out really good and it'll show a whole other side of us." - UPTOWN Magazine-Sept 25/08
