Bio

When SMG Records Nashville recording artist Iron Cowboy was once described as “a cleverly disguised rock band with a steel guitar”, founder and front man “Big John” Davis smiled and replied “We’ll take that!”  That observation from WDNB’s Paul Ciliberto could not have been more accurate.  Iron Cowboy’s sound is just that: guitars, bass, drums and pedal steel.  Simple.  Straightforward.  Honest.  From their old school country ballad “Too Soon”, to the bouncy honky-tonk dance number “I’m Just a Truck”, or the rock guitar-edged “Don’t Back Down”, it’s unmistakably Iron Cowboy.  The band provides a solid back track for the harmonies created by Big John’s raspy baritone and Cathy Paty’s soaring soprano vocals.

With their roots in Northeast Pennsylvania’s coal country, the members of Iron Cowboy understand the value of hard work and dedication.  What began as a cover band in 2008 has evolved to become a working Nashville recording artist with two studio CDs and six MusicRow chart singles to their credit, building a loyal fan base along the way.

“We enjoy the creative process of the recording studio” says Big John, “but our first love is the stage!”  Music columnist, blogger, and on-air personality Alan K. Stout once commented “What I like most about Iron Cowboy is that they don’t take themselves too seriously.  They just go out there and have fun making music together.”  Big John agrees “If we’re not having a great time on stage together, how can we expect our audience to have fun?”  It’s upon those live shows that Iron Cowboy has built their reputation.  Veterans of the bars and clubs of the Northeast, the band has grown to be just as comfortable on the big stage.  Iron Cowboy has performed at countless fairs and festivals, and they have made their presence known in Nashville as well, with appearances on the Billy Block Show, at C.R.S. (Country Radio Seminars), and at CMA Fest.  It was through those performances that Iron Cowboy became part of the SMG Records Nashville family.  Iron Cowboy has also performed as a support act for the likes of Deirks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Big & Rich, Chris Young, Chase Rice, Gretchen Wilson, Eric Paslay, Jon Pardi, Craig Morgan, James Otto, Bucky Covington, Jimmy Wayne, and Steel Magnolia at venues including Toyota Pavillion at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, in Bethel, NY (the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival).

Along with Big John and Cathy Paty, Iron Cowboy includes Fran Czuba and Joe Michaels on guitars, Myke Halchak on drums, Bob Bartoli on pedal steel, and Rick LeSoine on Bass.  The band is currently working on their third studio CD and touring throughout the Northeast.

Iron Cowboy’s latest single “Drink It In” is currently impacting Country Radio and finding its place in the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart.
