Is That SUMA

SUMA was born September 23, 1989, to Anthony and Ivy Carmichael in the heart of the motor city Detroit, MI. SUMA developed a love for the arts and sciences early in his childhood. His journey through music started when he joined his elementary school glee clubs and began taking guitar lesson at the age of 7. Though the guitar wouldn’t stick the love for music did. Later he joined the marching band and ultimately became drum major at age 12. In high school SUMA majored in music where he was trained in the theory, harmony and history of music with his specialty being in lower brass. After earning a degree in chemistry from Alabama State University (Summa Cum Laude *pun intended*), he was offered positions at some of the highest ranked Doctorate of Pharmacy programs in the country. Realizing he would never be happy in this field he declined and set out to follow his dream to become a professional musician. He took his passion to the next level when he teamed up with Ricky Royale and Flex Phoenix forming the group DMDUB. After turmoil caused a rift in the group, SUMA decided to pursue a solo career releasing his debut solo EP TOAST in the fall of 2014 exclusively on the indie music platform Bandcamp.com. The release of this project opened the door for opportunities to perform at the Sweet Auburn Music festival, collaborate with ATL rap group A1 the super group and to share the stage with the Floacist (Natalie Stewart) from the group Floatry, to name a few. In 2016 SUMA released an EP to all digital markets entitled "Orientation" which was intended to be the “intro to SUMA” so to speak.
