Bio

“I have worked with my reason, unreason, my caprices, my fury and poise…”
-Pablo Neruda, Chilean poet

Born in NYC, a lover of words and music, Isabel started singing songs like Lou Rawls' "You're Gonna Miss My Lovin" at 6 and took to the piano in her teens. A life-long poetry-lover, she's been touched by verses ranging from those of Suzanne Vega to Walt Whitman.

After college at Cornell University and Mannes, Isabel joined New York's music scene as a back-up singer for a rock band, The Defenders. Deeply inspired by this experience, Isabel started penning her own songs and formed her own band, Isabel and The Whispers. The jazzy, eclectic touches of her drummer, Alec, and the twanging strings of her guitarist, Octavio, color Isabel’s bittersweet and introspective songs.

Venues where Isabel's played include the legendary Bitter End, Don Hill's, and CBGB's Lounge under the auspice of New York's acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Sessions. Isabel and The Whispers have put out their debut EP and finished working on a longer album to be released soon. Isabel is also a songwriter affiliated with BMI and a performer for Musicians on Call.

Isabel’s songs have a story to relate, a vision to describe, a fleeting feeling to communicate through the beautiful frailty of her voice. The lyricism of fellow acoustic artists like Aimee Mann, stirring vocals of Suzanne Vega and Astrud Gilberto, and the ethereal piano stylings of Coldplay inspire her sounds. Her songs, like favorite poet Neruda, embrace the range and depths of human emotion…the caprices, the fury, and poise…and, of course, the love.
