Lurid, formed two years ago in Martinsville Virginia, is a devastating ensemble of talented musicians and gifted songwriters. The original lineup included: Mark Stroud on guitar, Joe Handy on vocals, and Toby Underwood on drums. Lurid went through several bass players untill picking up William Lusk about a year ago. Lurid captivates you at live shows with their hard hitting rock songs and soulful reggae jams. It is unlike anything you've ever heard. Most become immediate fans. While most up and coming bands resort to playing cover shows to get gigs Lurid is never afraid to play its own songs. Lurid spends countless hours in their studio always practicing, always writing. This group of talented young musicians and best friends, possess a musical connection that has been described as prodigy like.
MARK:22 - I'm a 22 year-old college student soon to have my associate and onto my masters. I started playing guitar my senior year in high school and played my own song at graduation. The greats: Kenny Burell, Jimi, Clapton, Frusciante, Buddy Guy, Mike Campbell, Al Anderson, Ronny Wood, Brad Nowell, Lindsay Buckingham, just to name a few. I wouldnt have any idea what to do with a guitar without these people. I've been playing in Lurid for two years.
JOE:24 - I grew up in Frankilin County, VA. I started playing music in hardcore rock bands at age 14 in which I played drums. I've been singing in Lurid now for about 2 years. "Joe from the stix, looking for a quick fix, some say im a hick, but they dont know"
TOBY:27 - I've been playing drums since I was 12 years old. My influences include: Dave Lombardo, Stuart Copeland, Herb, Steven Perkins, and too many more to name. I've been playing in bands since I was 14.Mostly underground and punk. I've been playing with Lurid now for 2 years.
WILL:21 - While I've been playing guitar all my life, I decided about a year ago to pick up the bass and instanly fell in love. My musical influences include: Eric Wilson, Flea, Jaco Pastorius, John Entwistle and Les Claypool, just to name a few. I've been playing with Lurid now for nearly a year.
