It is my pleasure to introduce you all to a young lyricist hailing all the way from Rochester, NY who goes by the name of Ishmael Raps. I was directed towards his music by my UK brother Aaron Vale yesterday who thought that I would find his sound pleasing. Furthermore, it was said that Ishmael had an extreme passion for BAPE which made me want to hear his vernacular even more. Let’s just say that I was pleasantly surprised!

The trendy tune that I am about to feature from my fellow Ape enthusiast is rightfully titled “Camo”. It’s video directed by MVTT WVLSH was shot in Rochester over a course of four consecutive days after six months of preparation (it’s all about the prep!). Being in his hometown, Ishmael decided to showcase some of the city’s landmarks such as Krudco Skate Shop, Javas Cafe, Manhattan Square, Stromboli’s Pizzeria and GoodKnews Studio. Here’s what the stylistic spitter had to say about the premiere:
“I find it pretty dope that you work for BAPE, man. Simply because myself and probably everyone I affiliate myself with would be thrilled to have that experience, haha. BAPE has been essential to my sense of style since grade school. Had the camo wallpaper on everything! My mom’s friend gave me school supplies one year and ended up giving me a bunch of pencils, books, etc. in her sons BAPE show box. I got my first pair during 6th grade, learned that it is way more than a footwear company. Saved up for months and got a Baby Milo tee. Got some all over print BBC Tee’s, BAPE denim, BAPE zip up hoodies over the years. I could barely afford it but I had to have it you know? I prefer BAPE over any other brand, to be honest.
The upstate music scene gets ignored and the world only knows us for murder rates. I want to be one of the good things that come out of Rochester and being 17, I want to let the world know that the youth shouldn’t be slept on.”

The wait is finally over, here is I$hy's Declined Flights x Insomnia Nights. This mixtape is hosted by DJ Grand Imperial. This impressive mixtape symbolizes events, thoughts, and high and low's on his path to becoming successful. That includes everything from waking up, to partying even to being lost in ones own mind.

"Insomnia" means: inability to sleep. If one is unable to sleep, one cannot dream.
The "Declining Flights" symbolize all the huge opportunities that are missed out on because of the trouble to visualize one's goals (dreams).

The mere imagery of not having the accessibility to one's dreams takes my mind to the work of the legendary Langston Hughes. Hughes poem "A Dream Deffered" asks a series of complex questions such as
"What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust over like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it sags like a heavy load. Or does it just explode?"

For I$hy, these deferred dreams are a direct result of his inability to actually dream. This is a very powerful combination of ideals. As the listener goes through tracks such as "Breakfast", "Wake Up (Colors)" and "Suicide Smiles" it is apparent that the idea of 'exploding', as a result of these Declining Flights, is very prevalent within the mind of this incredibly talented artist.
