"MONDAY FREEBIES: IS PARIS BURNING, VALERINNE, ACCESS ROYALE"

Is Paris Burning – Wild b/w This City

Is Paris Burning hails from the almost exact middle of the US, Kansas City, MO. Is Paris Burning is a power trio with emphasis on guitar-driven melodies and a pop undertone. As we like the DIY approach, the band reveals that “the single was recorded for basically $100 and a sandwich in the matter of an evening with the help of a fellow friend in the hardcore scene in his parents basement.” Delays and reverbs are blended in the whole formula, creating a delectable brew of pop melancholia and upbeat background a là Phoenix. - When The Music Is Over - Just Another DIY Blog

"Best Thing About Monday"

A furiously fantastic new wave single for your lovely ears this Monday morning. Is Paris Burning evokes the pleasant pop tones of Phoenix but emits more danger & less obvious hooks. Their sound is deep and dark but NOT melancholy.

Think Joy Division but more accessible. Is Paris Burning moves me & sends a pulchritudinous psychic shudder to all my lady parts...I should include the caveat that I'm attempting a hyperbolic statement and not a complete abandonment of my feminist pride. *Girl fucking power!* Is Paris Burning is fantastic. Their music burns and beats along with a tribal-esque fury (think Poster Children) and is anchored down by a frontman who sounds like he was born in a silicon egg designed by new wave pragmatic Danish designers
Is that too far out?

This is a far out Monday.
Have fun!

"Top New DIY Releases – Is Paris Burning, Heyrocco, Matt Churchill, The Hyper Actives, No TV Tonight!, The Mazloom Empire, Rounds"

This week’s top DIY album releases mix includes new singles, EPs and LPs from artists and bands from Kansas City, Brooklyn, Stockholm, and two artists and bands each from London and South Carolina.

Embracing the C-86 music style of jangle pop fused with post-punk (even if they don’t realize it), Kansas City, Missouri indie rock band, Is Paris Burning, hits the mark on the catchy new single, “Wild,” from the band’s self-released double single that was released DIY style on Wednesday. The B-side track, “The City,” is just as enjoyable as the A-side, and there are bound to be folks who cannot decide which of the two they like the most. That’s always a good sign for a new band.

Is Paris Burning got together in 2012, and already they’re starting to make inroads on the DIY indie circuits. This is apparently the first time the band has been featured on a major indie site. In addition to having opened for bands like The Features, Rags & Ribbons, and Gold Fields, the band consider among their top musical influences U2, The Smiths and The Maccabees, to name a few. - Indie Rock Cafe

Bio

Is Paris Burning hails from Kansas City, Missouri and came together in the middle of 2012. Backed by DIY ethos learned from years in underground hardcore/punk bands, Is Paris Burning goes on the theory that less is more. With just guitar, bass, and drums, the band aspires to make a lot of noise as power trio.....with pop sensibilities. Songs are guitar driven jangly songs with melodies and memorable guitar riffs that seem almost happy but leave you wanting to feel bummed. A type of sugar coated depression? Lyrics tend to not be pop orientated but semi-depressing musings on life, history and the people that contribute to it. One hopes the vocals can be described as a person lip synching to music while wearing sunglasses in a dark room in front of a mirror....and dancing.
Take equal parts c86, post-punk, and a little ascessibility...and you probably have a good idea what Is Paris Burning sounds like.
