"A.R.T.S.Y Premiere: ITAMAR SHATZ – “Djinn”"

Brooklyn-based by way of Tel Aviv, Itamar Shatz is creatively spreading his wings in the States and finding his rightful place among other up-and-comers in the music scene.

Emerging saxophonist and producer Itamar Shatz has dropped his newest effort, “Djinn.” The song is a fruitful mix of synthesizers, clapping and electronic effects, all accompanied by Shatz’ tranquilizing saxophone.

“I was drawn to the US, and New York especially, by its diversity and abundance in music and art in general. Along with a sense of artistic freedom I thought one could find here,” Shatz said.

Shatz is multi-talented in his arrangements, having a hand in both the production and the composition of his songs, Shatz is able to showcase his skills on the sax.

“I think that composing and producing has become one of the most contributing experiences in the ongoing process of finding myself as a player,” he said. “Some songs reveal themselves all at once and immediately tell you who they are.”

Shatz reveals himself to be as cool as ever on “Djinn.” His computerized construction of Jazz is something listeners can lose themselves in.

Omer Schonberger, an Israeli producer who has a hand in the Shatz’ upcoming Sireni EP, joins him on “Djinn” and plays an integral part in the song’s uniqueness.

“We are good friends, having worked together on Sireni was a great deal of learning and inspiration for me,” Shatz said of Schonberger. “I brought the composition to Omer [Schonberger] and as soon as we started developing the beat the entire production came along very rapidly and effortlessly.”

Besides Schonberger’s work on Sireni EP, fans of Shatz can look forward to intricate instrumentalism throughout his project.

In addition to his skills on the boards and the sax, Shatz looks to an array of influences from around the globe, which smoothly join together as one on the EP.

“Among the various musical styles that are blended into what I do, a few that stand out the most in Sireni are West and North African rhythms, Jazz and Middle Eastern genres,” he said. “Electronically produced and beat-driven, it is a collection of non-verbal songs, in which I play the role of a vocalist on my instrument.”

“Djinn” is nothing short of perfection as far as jazz fusion is concerned. Check out the single below and be on the lookout for Shatz’ upcoming Sireni EP. - A.R.T.S.Y Magazine
