Instrument Thieves are a newly conceived avant-pop band from a Brit, a Singapore native, and two music school grads from New Jersey. They found one another in Brooklyn and have been holed up in their Gowanus studio for the past two years figuring out what type of sounds they wanted to make. Drums, bass and guitar lay down the beats while throwback analog synth and electronically tinged violin add the color. A subtle weirdness compliments the strength of the melody and lyrics, which seem to come from the mouth of some sort of darkly fixated Paul Simon.
