Jamie Jones

While many acts rely on a stage name that separates them from the pack, Jamie Jones has chosen her talent to take her to the top. A native of High Point, North Carolina now representing ‘the DMV’ (DC, MD, & VA); Jamie exists to use her voice as a means of expression. She has been in the studio preparing her debut album, while performing showcases up and down the Atlantic coast.

Early on in life Jamie knew that she was headed towards music, but high school is where she really started to take it seriously. She started singing in school choruses at a young age, and once she landed her first solo, she knew it was her life’s dream. After spending many years fine-tuning her voice and crafting her own sound, she is ready to take on the urban-pop audience worldwide.

Coming from a very modest and diverse background Jamie finds refuge in expressing herself through her music. That self expression shows through brightly on her single “Whatever” which talks about her multi-racial background and being accepted. The attention and popularity of “Whatever”, which she has performed live on BET’s 106&Park, has served as the foundation for Jamie’s “I’m A MUTT” movement.

Jamie was constantly teased as a child and throughout her high school years which found her oftentimes feeling left out and alienated from her peers. She has chosen to use those experiences in a positive way to encourage others, especially young girls, that despite their differences they are important.

“The mutt thing actually started because of my mom – she always called herself a mutt. So me being young and hearing her say it, that’s my mom, she's a mutt and I'm a mutt too! I kind of embraced it; she doesn't really know her background and I don’t either. I have to embrace it, I am who I am – I’m Black, I’m white, what if I’m Asian? I used it as a good thing, for anyone else out there that is of mixed race, it’s okay. Don't feed into the gossip or the negative energy. Just be you!”

Other songs featured on Jamie’s project include “Brand New” where she puts her own twist on the Stylistics’ classic “(You Make Me Feel) Brand New”, “Can’t Give Up” which talks about not wanting to give up on that special but sometimes challenging relationship, and the Swizz Beatz produced “Ayo”.

Since linking with music industry up-and-comer Reginald Rainey’s X-Posure Entertainment, she’s shared the stage with established artists like Lloyd, Juelz Santana, Trey Songz, Erykah Badu and others. Along with her songwriting team, Jamie has worked with producers ranging from super producer Swizz Beatz, Hip Hop icon Kwame’ to Precision and newcomers Mo Digga and Young Boy out of ‘the DMV’. Additionally Jamie was featured on the popular website Allhiphop.com in November 2008 and she was also featured in the August 2008 edition of Black Beat magazine as well a number of industry blogs.

Jamie makes it clear that all of her natural talents are utilized in her live shows. “Not only do I sing, I also bring a lot of attitude and expression to my performance,” she explains. “My emotions draw people in and they really feel what I’m singing about.”

However Jamie also wants to make it clear that she doesn’t want the fame that can be obtained by singing just for the sake of being famous; she also wants to use her career as a vehicle to inspire and encourage others.

“I'm going to bring a different energy, since I’m so inspired by the ‘80s. I'm going to try to fuse the ‘80s rock with urban music. I want to become a crossover artist that’s not afraid to take that edge and just try to put it in people’s faces. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I came from learning that I have to work hard in this world, and I'm determined and disciplined. So I just want all of that to come out in my music and I want young girls to relate to me. I'm just hoping that I can really make a mark.”

Jamie has a strong confidence that will carry her to the next phase of her career. “In two years I want my face to be seen everywhere; on TV, on billboards, and in magazines. I want the world to know my name,” she says. “Jamie Jones is such a common name, but I want people to hear it and put only one face to that name.”
