Northside Reggie is not what his name implies. Sure, the bearded do-everything emcee appears in multiple facilities looking for plenty of weed to inhale to mellow out his thoughts but the quality of what he lets out isn’t your every day B-grade smoke. No, Reggie is a disciple of the days of Ski Beatz, cinematic landscapes and enough mental strife to want to go skinny dipping in your homegirl to take the pain away.
Deep Thoughts doesn’t come as a holiday release, nor should it be themed as such. The tape barely clocks in over thirty minutes and like a freshly rolled joint for a smoke session, Reggie makes sure to hit on many topics as possible from his sexual favors with music, hesitance towards life itself on “Who Want What”, a rather amusing spin over Rihanna’s “Man Down” and a boastful jaunt over Ski’s “Cream Of Da Planet”.
Most smoke interludes entertain plenty of hiccups, floating in between consciousness and lucid mental transactions. Deep Thoughts attempts to execute both in the same amount of time it would take to get from the Southside of Houston to Downtown and back. A short trip but one worth it if you have a worthy destination. - brandon caldwell
The chorus to “Get Cream” by Reginald Gohnson rotates around a simple phrase, “studio, sleep, wake up, studio”. The video itself revolves around a simple concept of passing an undisclosed bag around like a relay baton and hoping the stick up kids don’t pull off a heist before you reach the finish line. It might be a been there, done that concept but Reggie & company easily make it a bit fun, especially when Reggie motions for a minion to get the door while in the middle of a haircut. The boss’ so powerful, he sits in the chair and doesn’t even look like his beard’s been manicured to the tenth degree. Power. Grab Deep Thoughts here. - brandon caldwell
“My n-gga eat the weed if you see the coppers…”
“We Rollin'” operates as two things, another hazed out trip through the Northside with Reggie and the first official track from him as a member of The Numbers Committee. Drum Gang pitches to Reggie a smooth track, one so velvet that he glides off the track at the end before picking it back up. Don’t Smoke With Reggie, his collaborative effort with DJ Mankind is coming soon. - brandon caldwell
Reginald Gohnson teams up with Kab tha Don and KDOGG on this laid back ode to the Nawfside titled June 29th. This classic H-Town flow is from his next project, Don’t Smoke with Reggie. Listen up. - t piper
