I am a songwriter and do not usually perform my own songs except in demos. My music ranges from semi-classical to adult-contemporary pop.

Biography

I have a classical piano background, and grew up listening to ballads from the early 90's from artists such as Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Tina Arena, as well as some classical and film music scores.

My music has been influenced by these artists, and often have a musical or cinematic feel to them, and ranges from classical-crossovers to adult contemporary ballads.

I try to write songs that are different but also easy to listen to, with lyrics that are sophisticated but also accesible and easy to relate to.

I like to tell a story with my songs, as if they were sung by a character from a musical or a movie, while at the same time being generic enough to be stand-alone songs.

Sleeping Beauty

Written By: Ivan Kurnia

She's lying on her bed
Her gown a faded blue
Her golden hair, now matted grey
A shadow of the moon

Her childhood memories
A princess of the woods
Her faithful heart have come apart
In the walls of solitude

As a thousand days go by
And a thousand more to come
Her body stirs as snow begins to fall

So sleeping beauty breaks away
And opens up her eyes
To chase away the dragons in her mind
She won't waste another day
Before her heart can break
Believing that her prince may never come

She descends the stony stairs
Aglow in candlelight
The echoes of forgotten love
Arouse her wounded pride

She calls upon her past
The fairies of her youth
But fairytales and magic spells
They never tell the truth

So she finds the strength within
And turns into the wind
She packs her bags to face the world alone

So sleeping beauty walks away
And opens up her eyes
To chase away the dragons in her mind
She won't waste another day
Before her heart can break
Believing that her prince may never come

And so she blinks into the sun
In a world that she can barely recognise
The cold sends shivers down her spine
But the fire in her heart begins to rise

So sleeping beauty breaks away
And opens up her eyes
To chase away the dragons in her mind
She would make it all the way
To reach the other side
Believing that her prince is waiting there

And sleeping beauty makes a vow
To hold her head up high
Now she has slain the dragons in her mind
She would make it through the crowd
To reach the other side
Believing that her prince is waiting there

Wait For Me In Sydney

Written By: Ivan Kurnia

WAIT FOR ME IN SYDNEY

will you wait for me in sydney
it won't be too long
the end of my journey
will soon bring me home

will you wait for me in sydney
let time pass you by
i'm tired and weary
so save me a smile

i know it's been awhile
since i looked to the skies
to leave you behind

but still i always remember
the nights by the harbour
the long summer days by the sea
so give my regards to the sunshine
to light up the skyline
for i will be there by your side
before the summer ends

will you wait for me in sydney
i yearn from afar
the years may be lonely
but save me your heart

i will see you soon in sydney
with family and friends
so keep all your memories
to share with me then

and tell the surf on the sea
and the boats by the quay
to make way for me

and i will always remember
the nights by the harbour
the long summer days by the sea
so give my regards to the sunshine
to light up the skyline
for i will be there by your side
before the summer ends

yes the water is wide
but my heart is the tide
and you are but only an ocean away

so give my regards to the sunshine
to light up the skyline
for i will be there by your side
i'm reaching for your hands
like waves upon the sand
together once again
before the summer ends

The Lament of Gaia

Written By: Ivan Kurnia

THE LAMENT OF GAIA

she stands by the roadside
at the end of a highway
tired and weary of the world
her heart is in pieces
forsaken and wasted
watching her lifelong treasures burn

and she says to the sun
why do you linger
when the reason to shine
is lost forever
and she says to the stars
sleep and surrender
for the coming of the end of time

she once was immortal
her kingdom, eternal
her people, the glory of her throne
now caught in the middle
of a long winding battle
the ruins of her dreams, her shattered home

it’s a long way to fall
as you go higher
and the only way home
is down the ladder
it’s a long way to go
as you surrender
for the coming of the end of time

who will raise me as i lay
in the shadows of rebirth
who will hold me if i stay
i’m the widow of the earth

so she says to the sun
do you remember
when the light that you shine
could light the whole world
and she says to the stars
will you surrender
for the coming of the end of time
the end of time

she stands by the roadside
at the end of a highway
tired and weary of the world…

Homeland (A Soldier's Anthem)

Written By: Ivan Kurnia

HOMELAND (A SOLDIER'S ANTHEM)

there’s a road across the sunburnt pastures
and a path along the barren creek
where i walked beneath the golden sun
the echo of goodbyes trailing far behind

there’s a voice, the whispers of the gum trees
swaying by the gentle autumn breeze
it may seem a distant memory
yet i can always hear beyond the open seas

if i die not knowing where i’m going
if i fall not knowing where to fall
take me back, into my southern homeland
for my heart is waiting there for me

i may walk the footsteps of a hero
like the ones our fathers walked before
in my heart i yearn to understand
the glory of this fight among this foreign land

may one day and for a thousand lifetimes
there would be a place for me to sleep
in a song, destined to be sung
not only for the land but for all humankind

if i die not knowing where i’m going
if i fall not knowing where to fall
take me back, into my southern homeland
for my heart is waiting there for me

and with the tender warmth
her loving mother’s arms
she will embrace me with a
hero’s welcome
on the day i

die not knowing where i’m going
when i fall not knowing where to fall
take me back, into my southern homeland
for my heart is waiting there for me
i will stay, my glorious southern homeland
she’s my home, she will set me free

The Garden

Written By: Ivan Kurnia

THE GARDEN

if there was a garden for memories to grow
let me scatter the seeds of my life
i would gather the harvest wherever i go
and remember how life passed me by

and if there was a river where love was to flow
let it spring from the depths of my heart
it would run through the garden and on to the shore
to the harbour to be where you are

but the seasons may turn
and i may come to learn
that some trees may not be evergreen
but the coming of fall
is the sweetest of all
for it's then i shall treasure
visions of you

it is just like the springtime awaiting to break
as the blossoms arise from the earth
and the seeds that were sleeping in time will awake
and the garden will be
where i place unto thee
my heart

yes the seasons may turn
and i may come to learn
that some trees may not be evergreen
but the coming of fall
is the sweetest of all
for it's then i shall treasure
visions of you

it is here in this garden my love is reborn
let it grow to the ends of the earth
i will always remember the seeds i have sown
and wherever i go
let me sow many more
with you
