Iveta Baumane&Post Scriptum

I was born and raised in a musical family and ever since I can remember there was music playing in our home. My dad played the piano and the accordion, my mum sang, played both the guitar and violin. When I was 4 years old I took my mother’s violin and announced: “When I grow up I will be a violinist.” And so it happened. At the age of 6 I entered P.Barisons music school to study the violin. My childhood was quite busy, as besides regular school and music school I was attending art school as well. As I had success at both art and music my parents decided to sign me up for both art and music schools. When my dad noticed that both I and my sister are fond of music and we both enjoy singing (my sister Solveiga is also a singer) he made a decision to start a family ensemble, which was and still is called “Varbut”. And so at the age of 10 I started my first serious musical ways, playing music with my family at different festivals in Latvia and abroad. Later came collaborations with different well-known Latvian artists. I was a part of a gospel choir led by GunarsKalninš, provided backing vocals for well-known Latvian artists such as JanisStibelis, Dons, NormundsRutulis, ViktorsLapcenoks, Gustavo, SamantaTina and others, as well as participated in different musical projects ( Brinumskapis, Latvijas Talanti, Zvaigžnu Lietus, Dailes Teatra muzikala izrade „Cits Šerloks Holms”).
In 2006 while working on a project with Dons I was introduced to IngarsVilums who is the bass-guitar player of the successful Latvian band “PrataVetra” or Brainstorm, which was a start for our successful collaboration, spawning singles like „Cik Ilgi”, „Palidzi Man”, „Ka Lai”, „People Going Crazy”. In 2007 I performed his song “In Our Life” in the national audition for the Eurovision song contest and got through all the way to the semi-finals.The same thing happened in 2008 with the song “Observations’’, when in 2009 I finally got to the finals performing the song “Tic Tac” in a duo with Ivo Grininš-Grilis.
At the moment we have formed a collaboration with the Swedish duo “One Voice’’ and composer Romans Falkensteins, new material can be expected in the near future. :)
Despite all my musical projects and offers even to this day i am still playing music together with my family. Last year we took participation in a TV show called “DziedošasGimenes” (The Singing families) and finished in the honourable 2nd position. Due to the success of this project,music has become an even bigger part of our lives; nevertheless I am really happy to be spending time with my family in such a special way – by playing music together.
Alongside with everything else I have tried to establish my solo career, write songs, and form my own band. Despite the huge amount of music in my life I have always felt that I need to do my own thing. This search is never over for a musician which is a good thing as one always has to strive towards something. Love for music what drives me no matter what problems I might encounter. Believe in your dreams and they will come true!
