Ivins and the Popetarts

BandRockJam

Ivins and the Popetarts have an extremely original sound, hard to compare to any national acts of today. We mix an eclectic variety of blues, groove rock, jam music, jazz, funk, and more to come up with an updated version of what was great about the music in the 60's and early 70's.

Biography

Ivins and the Popetarts were founded as The Alumni in 2001 and have had a several lineup changes up until 2003 where the final roster was settled and the Popetarts were formed. The fantastic thing about our band is our originality. That is a pretty common plea among emerging artists, but listen to our music and you will realize that it is incredibly true. We write, record, and produce all of our own music with no outside help and no outside influence. The only influence we have are the great groups that have inspired us to follow them into the field of music. We are inspired by everyone from The Beatles, Phish, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and Pink Floyd, to Buffalo Springfield, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Victor Wooten, Medeski Martin and Wood, to Beethoven, Nirvana, and more. It is this great eclectic mix of musical appreciation that really brings our unique sound together. When pressed we describe ourselves as Jam/Groove Rock, but grouping our sound into one genre is difficult. Each song is its own style and its own flavour and we like to continue that way. Any live show that we play our fans are always wildly enthusiastic and energetic, singing along to crowd favourites such as "Jimmy" and dancing to the jamming songs like "The Captain" and many others. Our live performances are as enjoyable for our fans as they are for us to play. We all love playing music. We are not limited to our own instruments and have been known to swap instruments 4 or 5 times during a show. A Popetarts show is just a great experience as well as listening to one of our CD's or single tracks. We truly are a unique band, devoid of any of the cheesey monotonous modern rock sound, going back to the late 60's and early 70's where Rock was really blossoming. We take our sound from that era and make it our own and we invite you to experience it with us!
