Bio

Ivy Mike was created when two sets of best friends who all shared a deep passion for writing and playing music, came together to form a band that would suit all of their musical aspirations. Drummer Lewis Spring and Vocalist/Guitarist Jessy Singh had been playing together since the seventh grade in a number of different bands and have a unique and powerful chemistry thanks to their musical history and their friendship. Bassist Jared Meit and best friend, guitarist, Tom Forgacs had been jamming together for years and were searching for band-mates to create a band which would appease there appetite for writing and playing music. When the four friends first played together at the tender age of 16 it was obvious they had found something special. Although each member of Ivy Mike comes from a different musical background they have managed to create their own explosive sound comprised of elements from several different styles of music. Most noticeably: Rock n’ Roll and Blues. They have just released a five track demo and are currently in the process of writing new material and playing shows in Toronto.

Music has been a big part of Lewis Spring’s life since he was born. His father is a music professor at the University of Guelph and he can remember listening to Latin albums at a very young age. The first album he remembers hearing however was Bob Marley’s Legend. Lewis started playing drums at the age of 9 and has been studying privately and playing in bands since the age of 11. He has played in a variety of different bands ranging from reggae and ska to jazz and Rock n’ Roll. He is studying to be a professional musician at the University of Toronto.

Jessy Singh picked up his first guitar at the age of 9. It was given to him along with an amp by his uncle who passed away the following year. Jessy has had a passion for playing ever since. His style of playing is emotional and passionate and he makes this well known when on stage. His first time hearing Jimi Hendrix is what inspired him to play Rock n’ Roll but his other influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King and John Mayer. Jessy also helps writes lyrics and sings for Ivy Mike.

Tom Forgacs’ first musical memory is seeing the rock musical ‘Tommy’ at the age of six. The play sparked a passion for music that has been burning strong ever since. He has early memories of jumping from couch to couch in his living room rocking out to ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton. By the age of 12 Tom was in his first serious rock band, Mind the Gap. Tom’s passion for rock quickly spread to a love of blues, funk, progressive and folk music. Tom’s main musical influences include The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.

Jared Meit started playing bass at the age of 13 as part of an attempt to fit in with fellow schoolmates who were starting a band at the time. He quickly found that he not only had a talent for the instrument but had a deep love as well. First musical influences were bass heavy rock bands such as Finger Eleven, Staind and A Perfect Circle. As Jared’s skill developed so did his musical taste. He quickly came to idolize Victor Wooten and became a loyal fan of jazz and blues. Main musical influences include The Mars Volta, Jamiroquai, Jymie Merritt and Christian McBride.
