Bio

Jamar Roy (born June 12, 1984) known by the stage name J.D. Black, is an American rapper and entrepreneur. He is from Jacksonville, AR and is in the process preparing to release his debut album, Distinguished. The lead single from the project is a smooth, melodic, enchanting record featuring the Houston recording artist Yungstar (wanna be a baller/knocking pictures off the wall), J. Nelson, and Tat2thowed.

His music career started back in 2004 with the release of the T.A.P. mixtape. It was a collaborative effort with fellow rappers Vandetta and Gkay Skully. The mixtape was an instant local success and garnered the trio a sizeable following. After the success of that mixtape, J.D. Black assembled other local rappers and formed the A-states finest group and released a self titled mixtape in 2005 which produced their most popular track, on 22's. After the release of that mixtape, the following year they released an18 track mixtape titled "Hottest in the State" in 2006 which was a fan favorite. After that release, the group started touring locally and eventually performed later that year at the Juneteenth festival in Little Rock, AR in front of a crowd of 20,000. The performance was headlined by national acts such as Yo Gotti, Young Dro, Rasheeda, Young Joc, and more.

The following year, the group split up due to creative differences but in 2009 they got back together and released their final A-states Finest project titled, The Return. After that release, the group retired the name and went their separate ways. J.D. Black focused his efforts more towards his entrepreneurial endeavors which included the opening of a store front. He eventually started a lucrative career in the oil and gas industry.

After years of conflicting thoughts on whether to work again in the music industry J.D. Black decided that there was too much left undone and started to masterfully craft his return with his first official solo album release. It is currently in the works.
