Aspiring artist J. Montez was born Daniel Jason Montes in Boston and was raised surrounded by music. Being exposed to music at a very young age, he started playing the drums in grade school and went on being the lead drummer of a percussion assemble in junior high. He fell in love with hip-hop and in high school, took an interest in making original beats and writing lyrics. J. Montez soon decided not only was music a passion, but it is also a path he wanted to pursue. Inspired by idols such as Eminem, he wanted to bring hip-hop/rap to a new direction by incorporating his own creative flow and writing lyrics that have more profound meanings than just degrading messages. Not only does he express his love for music through hip-hop, he also finds himself enjoying making pop, reggaeton, and dancehall songs, showing versatility in his music. Being determined about making it in the music industry, he started performing in a duo and together they released a mixtape in January 2012. They performed for Kollaboraton Boston and made their way to London. After returning home from the United Kingdom, J. Montez decided to go solo. In October 2012, he released another mixtape, “All Grown Up,” and did more live performances. By 2014 he released "Watch Me Climb" and in 2015 with another versatile mixtape release "Don't Sleep". Hoping to share his dream with everyone, he just released his first solo Album, “Insanity The LP"!
