Bio
The Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha quintet was started in 2009 by five Laplanders living in Helsinki. The band sings about the sorrows and joys of living - from unrequited love and money that disappears like soap bubbles, to remembering the good times and the way life tends to triumph in the end.
Their unique sound is a musical mixture of Balkan Gypsy music, old Russian melodies and a touch of the immortal tangos by the great Finnish masters. In other words, it marries one of the world's great transnational musical traditions with melodrama born in the vast distances of the world's largest country, and travels to the other side of the world from the brothels of Buenos Aires to find it's cold yet passionate and fiery home in the North.
The music of Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha, albeit sung in Finnish, was born to travel. The band has played numerous concerts over Finland, Scandinavia and the Baltics to older and younger audiences and have been adored by both equally. No matter the occasion, their endlessly emotional music was born to please the crowds and make them laugh, cry, dance, and sing until the break of dawn.
Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha released their self-titled debut on Helmi Levyt in 2010 and received overwhelming reviews from Finnish media. One of the songs, 'Hän ei lemmi mua', became a radio hit and was playing daily at Radio Suomi, the biggest radio station in Finland.
