"Jacey Jasnoch Interview With Vents Magazine"

Q: Who is Jacey Jasnoch?

A: Hey! I’m Jacey Jasnoch. I’m a hip hop/pop song-writer, rapper and singer. I’ve been writing and recording for about 3 years, and just recently dropped my album “One Dream Away”

Q: What’s the story behind your artist name?

A: Prior to being adopted my legal name was Jordan Clark – my initials being J.C. So people began calling me J.C. This could be perceived as Jayce, Jacey, or J.C. well when people would write it out, frequently it was “Jacey” so I accepted that. It wasn’t until about two years ago that someone brought to my attention that the spelling I had chosen to pursue with my artist name was the feminine spelling. *shrug* oh wells.

Q: What’s your method at the time of writing a song?

A: Man, honestly…I just sit and vibe. If the beat is provided by a producer I’ll stick that beat on repeat (haha hey!) and just listen over and over and get a feel for the direction of the music. A lot of times rappers just rap over beats. I try to dive into the song and bring out the tone and feel using words the same way the producer used instruments. Now if I’m doing the production that’s a whole other story. If I’m lucky enough to be in the studio with the producer at the time of production then it’s even better. I love to vibe with Shane Abbott, a producer friend of mine. Our tracks always come out slammin’…or jammin’. Depends on our mood, I guess.

Q: What are your music influences?

A: Ah, dude. Well I guess life, love and relationships. Life as a guy in such an odd society where everything is sexualized has influenced me to go against the grain. I try to write in such a way that people who are trying to get away from just sex and drug songs can enjoy. I write and create to provide a clean, positive alternative for people with a higher standard. So my influence is good morals, my relationship with the creator and my relationships with people in my life.

Q: One Dream Away. How was the recording and writing process for this record?

A: The recording process was stretched out over the course of about 3 years. There’s stuff from when I first started and there’s stuff from just a few months ago on this record. There’s also everything from me recording in a studio, to recording in my basement. It’s just all over the place as far as how it was created…and I like it that way.

Q: How did you come up with the album’s name?

A: The album’s title was inspired by the thought “anything we wish to achieve and any of our hearts desires are really as easy to achieve as they are to dream”. So if you can dream it, and you believe in it, then it’s achievable. *shrug* I’ve honestly never answered this question before and never put much thought into it. I don’t honestly remember why we chose that title. But the answer I gave you sounded pretty good right? We’ll roll with it.

Q: When did you release the album?

A: The album was available for preorder starting in July on my website. It just hit iTunes and all the digital retailers on August, 10th. This is cool because the numbers that make up the date increase by increments of two – 8.10.12…pretty neat if you ask me…haha.

Q: What has been the funniest moment you have been or took part while touring or playing a show?

A: Oh man, the funniest moment was probably when I was performing live in Columbus, OH. I had my buddy running my tracks for me, and I screwed something up. So I told him to skip to the next song, and he wasn’t even paying attention. He was playing air-drums. So I’m standing there embarrassed as I’ll get out without any explanation to provide to the crowd for why the track is going but I’m not rapping or singing. So embarrassing…

Q: Are there any plans for the future we should be aware of?

A: Well currently I’m playing a lot of shows in Ohio, so if you’re in the area you should definitely keep updated. If you’re not in the area…feel free to book something for me in your area! lol. I’m also working on two new EP’s right now in the middle of doing all these shows so stay tuned for all that.

Q: Do you feel you are moving on the right direction?

A: Hard to say. I think so though. I’m doing what makes me happy and I’m making my family and fans proud. Isn’t that what really matters?

Q: Where can we find more about your music?

A: Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, Jaceylive.com …erm…Myspace? But no one uses that anymore.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

A: Well, I’d like to thank you for the interview and the chance to share with you. I’d also like to thank my friends, family and fans for their support. I love you guys. Check out my new record “One Dream Away” if you haven’t yet, and hit me up on Facebook or Twitter! Peace. - Vents Magazine

"One Small Step Mixtape Review"

If you are a fan of rap, R&B, dubstep, or just good, soulful music, then you need to check out up and coming artist Jacey Jasnoch. Jacey is a singer/songwriter based out of Ohio, and is coming out with track after track of great tunes. Jacey Jasnoch emphasizes the power of love, creating heartfelt pieces that are dripping with emotionality. Recently, he released a mixtape, a collection of ten songs, entitled One Small Step.

One Small Step is nothing short of well-crafted musicianship. It is an assemblage of lyrically, well-written songs paired with smooth vocals and undeniably cool beats. One Small Step has multiple noteworthy tracks, each with a unique sound. “No Gravity” is catchy and relatable. The beat is slick and the vocals pair well with it. It’s a beautiful song and strong start to the mix. “Girl, You Got That” is a great piece of smooth R&B. It’s very reminiscent of 90’s soul-filled R&B and the melody seems takes you back to a different time. The lyrics have a timeless quality and are well versed. Perhaps the best track off One Small Step is “Love Is”. The song is beautifully done and the chorus is catchy and wonderful. The keyboard played in the background meshes perfectly with the melody. While some may argue that the autotune on the rap parts may be slightly distracting, it is still an all-around well-done tune. Not only has Jacey proved that he is capable of creating unique, original pieces of work, but he is capable of covering other artists as well. With his cover of Drake’s “Lovin You No More” featuring Dirty Money, Jacey was able to do the original song justice, while still taking in a creative direction and making it entirely his own. The track has a clean flow throughout and clean vocals.
Be sure to check out One Small Step because Jacey Jasnoch is proving that he is a definite musical force to be reckoned with.
