Bio

Jacinto Canek were born in 2002. in Valpolicella, in the outskirts of Verona (Italy). The name of the band reminds us of a Mayan warrior of the XVIII century that sacrificed his life in order to save his people from the dictatorship and the oppression of the conquistadors. Their music: an outbreak of sounds. Hard and angry: they listen, they discuss, they try, they play, they aim at target and bang!: rock becomes syncretic and opens the door to different kinds of music like punk, ethnic atmospheres, electronic inserts and Mediterranean sounds. Oriental scales meet riff metal, African percussions invade pop melodies, reggae style leads to Balkan suggestions, punk meets synthetic arrangements and the over-bearingness of the lyrics makes a din at the echoes of didjeridoo. Their concerts, different every time, are amazing and full of energy. Definitely entertaining. In the last months, they’ve been going on tour through Italy and abroad in order to promote their debut album “Banditi” and that gained both critical and audience acclaim.
From April 2008, they’re having an important collaboration with US based band Kultur Shock.
Since last spring, the band from Verona, performed as the official opening act on the Italian tour of the cult band from Seattle. In August they also shared a mini tour in Croatia that has strengthened the mutual human and artistic esteem between the two bands. They both have a sort of a natural affinity that sinks the roots in popular tradition, rock and in the extraordinary liveliness of their live performances.
Innovation and singular style of Jacinto Canek has also conquered Margarita Jimeno, an American director (who recently filmed a documentary about Gogol Bordello) with whom “the Jacinti” have realized their first VideoClip, “Mio nonno”, broadcasted by many national and international music channels.
They have been selected to represent Italy at the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM) that will take place in september 2009 in Skopje (Macedonia).

Chosen to represent their district (North-East of Italy) at the national music contest "Primo Maggio Tutto l'Anno". Broadcasted by radio Rai2 8am program "Il Ruggito del Coniglio", the first track of their debut album "Banditi", "La Tetoja", has had the effect of a
thunder.
This is also the year of some new artistic collaborations.
Jacinto Canek opened the shows for Kultur Shock (Seattle-USA) in Venice and Milan, and were noticed by Stanislav Czwik, Kultur Shock's European tour manager, who gave them the chance to open for KS even in Slovenia and Croatia, during their summer tour.

They had time to come back to Italy just to perform at MEI (Italian indie labels annual meeting in Faenza), on the main stage.
