"Sucky Tart E.P Review"

“Compulsive and incredibly absorbing. Hayter’s character and disposition comes across as wise, temperamental… the imagination to break from the usually tough (and boring/overdone/tiresome) grasps of folk.” The Line of Best Fit - The Line Of Best Fit

Bio

In addition to his acclaimed work as solo performer, Jack Hayter has been a member of three bands of note. Most famously he played guitar, pedal steel, keyboards and vocals in the John Peel darlings HEFNER. He was also a founding member of folktronica pioneers DOLLBOY and of the critically acclaimed south London group SPONGEFINGER in the 1990's. He still performs and records with ANT and DARREN HAYMAN of Hefner and also with Dollboy.

Hayter released his full length album "Practical Wireless" in 2003 on the Absolutely Kosher label (Mountain Goats/Xiu Xiu).

The following years were somewhat low-profile, helped in no part by a heart attack but did yield supports for artists like KT Tunstall, Martin Grech and Mountain Goats, plus a 2008 tour with Darren Hayman which included a major slot at the Primavera festival in Barcelona and headlining shows as part of the Primavera club and tanned Tin Festivals that year as well as the End of the Road.

Jack returned more prominently in 2011 with the "Sucky Tart" EP for the fledgling Audio Antihero label. This acclaimed EP was celebrated by the likes of The Line Of Best Fit and aired on BBC 6 Music shows from Tom Ravenscroft and Tom Robinson.

To promote the EP Jack was interviewed by This Is Fake DIY and The Music Fix and invited to record sessions for Resonance FM and Dandelion Radio.

Jack is currently working on a follow up to "Sucky Tart" for 2012. In addition, Hayter has contributed his distinctive pedal steel guitar sound to many recordings by diverse artists such as Mark Mulcahy, Tram and even Ginger of Wildhearts fame!

"It may go unnoticed, slide past the hype and balls of 2011’s anticipated early releases but the reaction it derives, the perplexity it inspires is needed – even in a scene where we’re all so, so, sooooo serious." - The Line Of Best Fit

“Tom Waits and some mates running amok in a second hand music shop.” – Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

“Hayter has one of the weariest, most world-beaten voices around.” – Pitchfork

"This is just a glorious treat of a four track EP that might just be the man’s finest moments yet." - The Organ

Hayter is an intense and compelling live performer with an entertaining stage presence...his dark songs accompanied with relevant, though sometimes tangential, anecdotes.
