The Jackie Onassis Story

Forming in late 2011 over a common love of music and American History (ergo the Jackie Onassis moniker), high school friends and long-time hip-hop junkies, Kai Tan (vocals) and Raphael Dixon (production) have made staggeringly short work of the local and international music scenes.

In only a few short months, the huge hype following this pair from Sydneys Inner-West has rapidly snowballed, with international tastemakers and bloggers pegging the duo as the hottest up-and-coming Australian hip-hop act of 2013.

Building massive momentum in late 2012 with the independent release of debut EP, Holiday, habit-forming, horn-laden lead single Crystal Balling that blends energetic, tightly-packaged lyrics with surging beats and complex production has not only received widespread critical acclaim receiving airplay by BBC
Radio 1s renowned DJs Zane Lowe and Rob da Bank but has also been placed on heavy-rotation at triple j and triple j Unearthed digital radio.

Rapidly evolving from an unsigned and unknown act to playing a series of shows in London; Brightons prestigious Great Escape Festival as well as fielding an onslaught of calls from major local and international record labels, Jackie O has also accepted personal invitations to tour with the likes of Melbourne MC, IIly; Sydney hip-hop heavyweights, Spit Syndicate; as well as receiving a prominent slot playing Australias Big Day Out and Come Together festivals working audiences into a frenzy with their dynamic and high-energy performances.

The duo also forms one third of Australian hip-hop collective One Day Crew (alongside old friends Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate and Joyride) and has featured on triple js Next Crop list and the Sydney Morning Heralds list of Next Big Things for 2013.

Assured, crisp, fresh; Holiday is the best debut weve heard from a pair of young, male Sydneysiders since well, since Spit Syndicate and then Horrorshow opened our eyes to the One Dayers in 2008.

In just the first three tracks, Jackie Onassis have already demonstrated a versatility that is rarely seen in Aussie hip-hop.

the [AU] review

A really juicy cut from the Holiday EP. This is just as potent as other Jackie Onassis tunes but keeps on this really slow and low tip that kills me. [Smoke Trails]

Dave Ruby Howe, triple j

Currently in the process of recording follow-up EP, Juliet a record that promises to herald a contorted style and structure unlike anything before it Jackie Os relaxed and versatile sound is set to ensure a recording and touring schedule that is as tightly packaged as their inimitable lyrics.

Watch out for these guys in 2013.
