Jack Licata

Jack Licata

 Orlando, Florida, USA
BandRockAlternative

A beautiful mess of the musical simplicity of classic rock married with artful, intelligent and, at times, romantically graphic lyrics all unified by a distinct vocal style. Simultaneously manages to be completely original, yet universally accessible.

Biography

Patient, humble, and focused, Jack Licata sits balanced on the edge of nationwide notoriety. Original songs like The Addict, (reviewed in Miamis City Link/MetroMix) and Deadly Lovely (airplay on West Palm Beachs The Buzz 103.1) are quickly paving the road for Jacks success. But for now he is experiencing the local acclaim of being a Florida hometown hero, born and raised in a state typically known for the transience of tourism and tropical living. Jack represents his Florida roots on the infectiously catchy hit song, Seasons Never Change (Florida), a song that is as entertaining and insightful as it is effective in serving its purpose as a lead single to make the listener want to hear more. Fortunately, for those who do want to hear more from Jack Licata, 'Transient Passenger' EP will be released October of 2009 on iTunes and Rhapsody and a 2008 EP release entitled, This Too Could Be You which is available at all of Jacks live shows.

Jack is a self-taught musician who first picked up the guitar at age 13 and sites U2, Butch Walker, Billy Joel, Atreyu, and Led Zeppelin as influences. This combination of influences causes what he refers to as "Musical A.D.D." He asserts that his lyrics are dark, yet accessible, a combination that typically creates successful and famous artists that are able to keep their integrity and respect while reaching new levels of stardom.

Having gigged at South Florida venues such as Fat Cats (Ft. Lauderdale), OSheas (West Palm Beach), The Irishmen (Boca Raton), Korrigans (Pompano Beach), The Dubliner (Boca Raton), The Hard Rock (Hollywood), and countless open mics, Jack has succeeded in making his name a recognizable one on the South Florida music scene. Performing at these venues has enabled Jack to build a resume that earned him some high profile shows, like performing at The Broward County Fair in 2002 and 2008 and also at Sunfest in 2001, which is one of Floridas largest yearly music events, having had headliners such as Jason Mraz, Johnny Lang, Fiona Apple, and Ludacris in past years. Most recently, Jack was selected to play The Gap's 'Born to Play Live' 40th Anniversary celebration.

Always working on developing every aspect of his music career, Jack has be begun writing songs for other artists and, as usual, is blurring the lines within his genre. He is also is intently focused on licensing his music for use in movies, commercials, and all other forms of placement. His sound seems almost tailor made for this sort of exposure. Reminding you that monetizing ones music can be done, especially when the artist possesses real talent and knows how to channel it, which is why listening to Jack Licata beckons the feeling of hearing an artist on the brink of his big break.

Lyrics

Deadly. Lovely.

Written By: Jack Licata

You look so at home in the shadows
You lie in wait for your chance
To attack
Licking your lips oh, so softly
A quick look back?
That could be costly
Because once you stare
You're already caught in the trap

Just love me deadly
She's so deadly lovely

Anything you want
Just take all that's left in me
Anything at all
Even the air I need to breathe
Anything at all
I'll lay it down right at your feet

Just love me deadly
She's so deadly lovely

I feel like I've been marked
for torture
So catch me if you can
And time me to the rack
A quick look back?
That could be fatal
I know you're more than capable
I know I wished for this
I know I wished for this
But can I take it back
When I said...

Just love me deadly
She's so deadly lovely

Repeat Chorus

I play daily
The name of the game is survival
If I'm not careful
You might not see me tomorrow
So I pray to thee
Go against your instincts
Your animal tendencies
And just be human
Give in...
Come on give in...
Just give in....

Repeat Chorus

Change the Locks

Written By: Jack Licata

It's gonna take more than
Just a coat of paint
To cover up these memories
ong after the locks are changed
Will this still feel like home to me?
Things have happened
I can't change
But what choice to do I have
But to let it all go

Here I've learned that living
Is a priviledge
It's more than being alive
And just becuase you are living
Doesn't mean you have a life
When an existence
That you're not proud of
Takes up all your time

But I think it's time
I think it's time
I think it's time that I...

Start changing my surroundings
Things are changing all around me
I think moving on is the
Best Idea I've had
I'll forget about this mess
Won't even change my home address
Because this next stop
Well it won't be my last

This feels like ending a relationship
With a long kiss goodbye
You just can't seem to understand
How you have the stenght to try
To pack your things
Up and leave
All this history behind
And never look back

Angel

Written By: Jack Licata

Her real name was something pretty (But I can't remember)
So she might as well
Introduced herself as scandalous
Just when she said
I'd be safe from all the games
(I find I'm already getting played)
(All alias) and alibis
Just disguises and excuses
Can you do no wrong?

In my eyes...
In my eyes...
It's over and it's through
Then I'm done with you

Can't you see that this is killing me
Is it you or just my mind
That's turning tricks on me
But I can't seem to hate you
No matter how I try
Becuase you always be
An angel in my eyes

It's over and it's through
Then I'm done with you

Deception was always
The weapon of choice
But she'll just make you scream
Until you lose your voice
She'll make your skin crawl
But you won't want to move
Not after too long

In my eyes...
In my eyes...
It's over and it's through
Then I'm done with you
It's over and it's through
Then I'm done with you

Repeat Chorus

With all these games we play
Things will never change
Just throw it all away
But you always be
An angel in my eyes

Repeat chorus

Building Blue Sky

Written By: Jack Licata

I wish I could stay
Because I can't stand to hear
The door lock behind me
Everytime I walk away
Life get's in the way
Of the very act of living
We shouldn't have to say...

Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...

Just know when I'm gone
I'm working on
Building our own blue sky
You're the reason I breathe
You're the reason I'm alive
Sometimes I wonder
If these three words
Are all I'll ever have
Would that keep you coming back?

I wish I could stay
Because I can't stand to hear
The door lock behind me
Everytime I walk away
Life get's in the way
Of living how I know we should be
We shouldn't have to say

Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...
Say goodbye...

Just know when I'm gone
I'm working on
Building our own blue sky
You're the reason I breathe
You're the reason I'm alive
Sometimes I wonder
If these three words
Are all I'll ever have
Would that keep you coming back?

Don't you know
I'd come running back

Repeat Chorus

Seasons Never Change (Florida)

Written By: Jack Licata

Everyone complains
That the seasons never change
Down in Florida
But who wants to be alone
On a winter's night
So dark and cold
But in this kind of weather
Waking up alone never gets old

But I think you can make it better

If you fly south for the winter
And the rest of your life
Help me turn this place
Back into paradise
I need you now
More than you'll ever know
Because without you, the sunshine
Still feels like eight below

Everyone complains
That it always rains too much
in Florida
And the humidity
Can get to be so much
You can't breathe
But I've felt this shortness of breath
Ever since she left me

But I think you can make it better

Repeat Chorus

If you fly south for the winter
And the rest of your life
Help me turn this place
Back into paradise
The cold can be deadly
But I will survive
If you hurry now
You can be here tonight
I need you now
More than you'll ever know
Because without you, the sunshine
Still feels like eight below

If It's Not You

Written By: Jack Licata

What's with all this fast talk
And these faster moving hands?
Why is it that love
Has to be a game of chance?
Why am I so good at turning
Treasure into trash
It always comes down
To just one simple fact

If it's not you...Then it's no one
If it's not you...I dont want to know
If it's not you...It's just not you
Then I'm just another lonely fool

I do my best to have some patience
Try my hardest to be a man
When she says she can wait
But I'm not sure I can
Tell myself it's just an urge
And this too shall pass
But for the first time
I'm not so sure bout that
