Jack's Mission

Jack's Mission

Lyric-focused Rock music with influences of jazz, blues, and folk. Influences include Jackson Browne, Steely Dan, Sting, Tom Petty, Miles Davis, Neal Young, Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, and, of course, the Beatles

Jack's Mission is the music of singer/songwriter Steve Sweeney. "Capturing a little piece of reality in a 3-4 minute tune is an incredibly fulfilling experience. A song has the ability to tap into the human consiencness in a way that few other things can. When I listen to music, I'm looking for something that will give me a better understanding of myself or someone else. I'm not looking to write a soundtrack to a Frat party, I'm just hoping to tap into the inner consciousness, if only for a few short minutes. Poetry can do that but few people take the time to read it. The fusion of words and music gives a slightly better opportunity to break through a pop culture that is focused on the cheap thrill. Obviously, there a great many people who couldn't give a damn about the cheap thrill and that's the crowd I hope can appreciate some of these tunes."

Band members include studio and touring musicans who have recorded and toured with a variety of artists including Ben E. King, Lloyd Price, Gene Chandler, Jerry Butler, Mary Wilson (of the Supremes), Ruth Brown, Julia Nixon, Jane L. Powell, The Grandsons, Junkyard Saints, Sin Miedo, Rumba Club, Mambo Combo, the Washington Ballet, Sugar Jones, and Tom Forsey.

We currently have one CD, New Butterfly with ten original songs. Another CD is in progress.
