musical taste of the Black Belt
While many people tire of the
negative reputation of the area
known as the Black Belt, Livingston
pastor and musician Jack
White has channeled his
frustration into a project
that shines a spotlight on
the musical heritage and
talent of the region.
“Somebody was
belly-aching that we’ve
got nothing going on
down here, that we were
a Third World country,”
White told Birmingham
News writer Thomas
Spencer. “I just got sick
of it.”
The Sucarnochee
Revue was born upon
that sentiment coupled
with White’s boundless
energy and his years of success in
the country music business. White,
pastor of the Livingston Church
of Christ, has several albums to
his credit and has penned songs
recorded by Ray Stevens, Charley
Pride, Buddy Jewell, Steve Wariner,
Neal McCoy and Mark Lowery.
He received an ASCAP Award for
“If I Didn’t Love You,” and a NSAI
Award for the #1 Southern Gospel
song “When Men Pray.”
“The purpose of the SucarnocheeRevue is to introduce radio listeners
in Alabama, Mississippi, and,
importantly, other parts of the nation and world to the artistic
community of performers from the
Black Belt area,” writes White on
the Sucarnochee Revue website.

exploited by professionals from

Jacky Jack White is a legendary songwriter who makes his home in Livingston, Ala., who has written songs for recording artists Neal McCoy, Charlie Pride, Ray Stevens and the Carter Sisters.
White has received an ASCAP award for "If I Didn't Love You", and a NSAI Award for the #1 Southern Gospel song, "When Men Pray". In 2005, White was featured on the Grammy nominated CD, "Clouds".
He is the host of the nationally syndicated radio show, "The Sucarnochee Revue". The "Revue" is currently on 34 radio stations in ten states,plus,Internet Radio. The show is taped at the University of West Alabama in Livingston where Jack has resided for almost fifteen years. He is married to the former Jody Tartt who is a native of Livingston, Al. and has three children, Kate, 13 yrs old ,Mary Mac,5 yrs old, and Henry,3 yrs old.
White's work spans the genres of country, blues, rockabilly and gospel. His music is lively, at times wistful, and often humorous, but unquestionably Southern.
White has had songs on the charts as a singer/songwriter since 1985 with over 100 of them recorded by many including: Ray Stevens, Charley Pride, Buddy Jewel, Steve Wariner, Carl Ray, Neal McCoy and Mark Lowery.
In Dec. 2008, Silverwolf plans to release a 3 CD package including Jacks most popular songs. Jacky Jack White has also been a touring artist on the roster of the Alabama State Council of the Arts.
He has produced shows, and performed at Lipscomb University, Motlow College, Harding College, Livingston University, Nashville's famous Bluebird Cafe, WSM radio's Midnite Opry, and Nashville's Douglas Corner Cafe. White has also hosted the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Talent Show in Carthage, Texas for the last few years.
He has produced CDs for J. Burton Fuller, the Carter Sisters and three self-titled CDs on Silverwolf Records, a prestigious Vermont Folk label. "The Sucarnochee Revue Presents Music for the New South" are Jack's 2007 CD releases on Silverwolf. "The Sucarnochee Revue Presents Music for the New South Vol. II" was released in March 2008.
White also released an album mastered by South City Records titled "Jacky Jack White Live" released in April 2008. He signed with the Independent record label from the University of Southern Mississippi in January 2008.
While Jack is known mostly for his work in the music business, he has been published in Christian magazines such as Alive Now !!, Christian Woman, and the Gospel Advocate. He has two new books, a Christian book "No Other Gods Before Me", and a Western,"Cotton" expecting release in early 2009. Additionally, Jack has been a Church of Christ minister for 27 years.
