"Get Jazzed! with Robert Fine and Jackee Guillou"

GET JAZZED, A Benefit Concert for NOW Canada
with Robert Fine & Jackée Guillou

Robert Fine of Kelowna and Jackée Guillou from Vancouver/Kelowna will be performing a show together comprised of classic favorites from the Great American Songbook. Fine's crooner style has been noted in numerous concerts in Kelowna and around the world for his exceptional interpretations of Frank Sinatra songs.

Jackee will be performing the hits like Besame Mucho, Mood Indigo, Just Squeeze Me made popular by legendary vocalists such as Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae. Robert Fine is a local favorite in the arts community and will be sharing the stage with Jackee for a handful of duets. Robert and Jackée have been performing together since last summer where they both were featured with the Dreamland Band in a sold-out show at Rotary Centre For The Arts.

Together they are joining forces to perform a benefit concert for NOW Canada in the effort to raise money for the Alexandra Gardner Woman and Children Safe Centre . Since opening its doors in 2002, this 20-bed shelter has offered accommodation to nearly 5,000 women and children. The everyday wear and tear of the house is taking its toll and it is in need of significant improvements. Please donate by purchasing a ticket to this very special event. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of women and children of the Okanagan. - City Of Kelowna

"Jazz fest award winner sings Thursday"

October 5, 2010

Jazz singer Jackée Guillou can’t wait to hit the road with her quartet to show what the judges in the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award heard last summer.

First stop is Cellar Jazz Club, which has become one of Vancouver’s hottest venues in the genre. Second stop is Thursday at St. Andrew’s on the Square.

Guillou is making her mark as an emerging voice in Canadian jazz, though she feels she’s been around a while.

“I’ve actually been performing since I was three years old,” she said from Vancouver. “I was always singing and dancing, so I’ve always been around it my whole life.”

Guillou studied jazz at college and worked in musical theatre as an actor/singer/dancer in Toronto for a number of years before returning to B.C. She’s a cousin of B.C. country singer Lisa Brokop.

“In a way, I kind of started narrowing things down,” as she pursued her dream of becoming a jazz singer. Winning the Galaxie Award at the 2009 Vancouver International Jazz Festival brought extra wind to her wings.

“All of a sudden I started listening to jazz radio and going to jazz clubs, so it really forced me to focus.”

While turning her attention to songwriting, she’s currently involved with three projects, including a jazz duo and a 15-piece big band, the Dreamland Band. With the quartet, she blends swing and bossa nova, singing in multiple languages.

After only two or three performances at the Firehall Cultural Centre, she did her first live recording, an EP. She’s currently working on a fourth release, a full-length CD, but the EP paid off.

“Because of that, musicians could see I have room for growth.”

A seasoned quartet joins her, including bassist Michael Rush, Seattle-based pianist Victor Noriega and drummer Julian MacDonough of Albaquerque, N.M.

Guillou will sing originals from her latest CD as well as covers of songs by her inspirations among Canadian singer/songwriters — Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith and Rufus Wainwright. Another popular request is Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Tickets for Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. show are $20, available in advance from ray.nyuli@entertainmentManagement.ca or 851-1180. - Kamloops Daily News

"Blog - Interviewed Jackee Guillou"

I interviewed Jackée Guillou, a lovely jazz vocalist from Vancouver BC. I also got to catch a performance when she was in Kamloops. She is lively and engaging and her performances reflect this along with an innate sense of rhythm. Guillou is certainly on a rising trajectory. Jackée was the recipient of the Galaxy Rising Star Award at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival last year. The interview was aired as a Jazz On The Rocks Special Presentation. http://www.jackee.ca/ I’ll let you know when it gets to print. - Shelley G - Jazz On The Rocks

Having first met the talented Jackee preforming quartet style ala swank rooftop of a gastown penthouse for the inaguarl Designers on Designers event, I have yet been able to get her tunes out of my head.

The utmost favourite is by far her rendition of “Girl From Ipanema” – which you’ll notice compliments our ss2011 behind the scenes video (coming soon) with an effortless coolness & so suited for a summertime picnic affair.

"Audi Do"

AUDI DO: Open Road auto dealer Christian Chia threw a party to launch the $187,000 Audi R8 Spyder model at his Boundary Road showroom Wednesday. It's a fresh-air version of Audi's existing $173,000 Coupe, and shares its 525-horsepower V10 engine. Still, Chia, 41, prefers to go racing in the 450-horse Porsche 997 GT3 he'll pilot at a Singapore circuit Sept. 25.

Delta-raised actress-singer-tap dancer Jackee Guillou ( www.jackee.ca)checked the Spyder between sets featuring songs from her tasty Live At The Firehall Centre For The Arts CD. Eight of 11 tracks are covers, but Guillou said she's written seven songs for a soon-to-wax sequel -- with more of Evan Arntzen's suave clarinet playing, let's hope.

"My goal is to make jazz cool again," Guillou said, possibly surprising those who thought it always was.
