"Follow These Instructions for a Productive Weekend"

Finally, at 1am, end your night with Jacob Ide at 1974. Ide writes acoustic punk protest songs, and some of the most beautiful odes and anthems to Tulsa you’ll ever hear. And also songs like “I Went Hunting With Vice President Cheney and Now I Only Have Half A Face”. Not to be fucking missed. - SQUARE Magazine Blog

"Weekender 5/11/07-5/13/07"

Clint Niosi/Warren Jackson Hearne/Jacob Ide (SHQ Denton): A solid folk/singer-songwriter night at SHQ. And I usually hate anything having to do with the phrase "singer-songwriter." I think fans of The National would probably dig Clint Niosi a bit, and dude obviously pulls off the Leonard Cohen meets Ian McCulloch thing pretty well, so this could be an enjoyable performance if that's your kind of thing. Warren Jackson Hearne is quite a compelling and haunting vocalist as well, and although I don't know if I'm crazy about Jacob Ide (lyrics are a bit too outwardly political for my taste), this should be a chill way to start the evening. - We Shot JR blog

"Weekender: 4/6-4/8/07"

Chris Garver/Street Hassle/Jacob Ides (Secret Headquarters): A good songwriter with a lack of self-importance that permeates the work of similar inwardly focused artists. I prefer Garver with a backing band as the sometimes shaky setup only emphasizes the uncomfortable vulnerability of the material. Street Hassle sounds like you like you might expect from a band that named themselves after a Lou Reed solo album, though they sound more like Peel Slowly And See out-takes than his 70's material. This didn't grate on me the way some of the VU knock-off bands do and I hope I can say the same for their live show. Jacob Ide is a singer-songwriter from Oklahoma but his preaching to the choir lyrics, while well-intentioned, possess all the subtlety of being hit in the mouth with a claw hammer. - We Shot JR blog

Bio

Jacob Ide sings and plays the acoustic guitar, but his music is not "your typical coffeeshop bullshit." He has created his own unique sound by combining elements like the lyrical sarcasm of the Dead Kennedys, the melodic power of Nirvana and element of drive and fun found in The Violent Femmes.

His songs range in topic from critiques of the national political climate ('My Parents Politics' and 'I Went Hunting with Vice President Cheney') to social issues such as gay rights ('Rage') and women's rights ('Lilith'). Now based in Dallas, Texas, Jacob remains close to his Oklahoma roots with songs about his hometown Tulsa.

Jacob has played shows across Oklahoma and Texas, as well as in Arkansas. He has played with Tulsa favorites including GHOSTS, Billy Joe Winghead, and jorDan and has opened for national touring acts such as Karate High School, Evangelina, and Dr. Manhattan (Vagrant Records).
