JACOBS HILL

JACOBS HILL

 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
BandRockAmericana

Two brothers who have individually done major label recording sessions and touring join forces to write material and collaborate with an up and coming vocalist. Support is provided by Philadelphia musicians from well known bands (Amos Lee, The Hooters) to create a solid debut EP.

Biography

It was a Saturday night and our first set was about to end when Alex Rockwell Jacobs brought down the house. He finished his guitar solo with a crescendo by slowly sliding the neck of his guitar up against a steel post in front of the stage. The crowd loved it. Tim Nielsen from Drivin N Cryin was in the audience. He later invited Alex to Atlanta to introduce him to some people there.

In Atlanta Alex played guitar for country music singer Keni Thomas, did some Disney/Touchstone recording work and was cast in the movie Sweet Home Alabama (guess which tune he played?). Before moving back north, Alex did a prime time gig on the ABC series “The Mole.”

I was in Philly by this point. Jealous of my little brother’s success in Atlanta, I dragged myself out to play at the Philadelphonic jam session at The Khyber and cut my teeth on the local music scene that surrounded G. Love. I later played bass for the talented singer/songwriter Phil Roy for several years and on his 2008 Decca Records release The Great Longing.

John Michael Sakoian and I became friends while studying architecture at Drexel University together. He walked up one day during a presentation and said, "You've been around a bit, huh?" I took that as a compliment. I came across his Myspace page and realized that I knew this guy from school. John has a great voice that is unique, sincere and yet familiar in a mysterious way.

Alex, John and I recorded our CD with the help of many talented musicians from Philadelphia. Our chief guru was Tom Spiker, who recorded and mixed all the tracks. Fred Berman (Amos Lee Band) helped us out on drums and John Lilley (The Hooters) dropped in for some mandolin and electric guitar.

Hope you’ll give it a listen!

Live & Learn

2 Live & Learn (3:12)

Words – Sean Hill
Music – Shoshin Yoshida & Sean Hill

finding time to kill now that she is gone
dry your eyes, say goodbye and carry on
getting burned and still wondering what is wrong
show me deep inside where answers lie and in this song

live and learn, the world still turns
tomorrow will be a brighter day
live and learn, love returns
the sun will shine some day

it’s alright, believe, promises are never alone
we depend in the end on the light w are shown

live and learn, the world still turns
tomorrow will be a brighter day
live and learn, love returns
the sun will shine some day

some day, any day

Another Rising Sun

4 Another Rising Sun (3:23)

Words & Music – John Michael Sakoian

you must be joking ‘cause I’m not broken
yeah, I get wild sometimes
shot dead full of time, alone I feel fine
at least that’s what I showed you that night

so are you saving all my love?
you make it so all I wanted love
was to see another rising sun

with you I’m amazing, is that you shaking?
so this is how it feels to love
when we were walking, yeah you were talking
like someone sent you from the sun

so are you saving all my love?
you make it so all I wanted love
was to see another rising sun

DRUMS: Fred Berman
LEAD VOCALS & ACOUSTIC GUITAR: John Michael Sakoian
