Bio
Jacquel was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. At the tender age of ten, her family moved to Newark, New Jersey. While passing time and waiting to make new friends, the music on the radio became her best friend. She discovered her passion for singing; she was gifted with an amazing voice. In later years, she got a break when she was hired as a back-up singer for the great William Bell. Throughout the years, she has shared the stage with artists such as Betty Wright, Shirley Brown, Mel Waiters, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Curtis Blow, The Stylistics, and Ali Woodson of the Temptations. There is where her journey began and since that time, she has become a well known, international artist, performing in Italy, Japan, Korea, and Thailand, just to name a few.
Her soulful voice will remind you of "old school" greats like Jennifer Holiday, Betty Wright, Jean Carne, and Phyllis Hyman, and the new school music of Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.
Jacquel hopes to bless the world with the same emotionally filled songs as these “First ladies” of R&B have done. She believes that songs should have meaning, and should be able to touch the hearts and souls of all generations.
That is exactly what she and co-writer/co-producer Gregory Charley have done with her latest CD, “J-Time”, which is due to be released this fall.
So, look out world. Ready or not, here she comes. Jacquel!!!
