Bio

Born with a passion to inspire and ignite the souls of those who hear her songs, singer/songwriter Jacqui Hylton continues to capture audiences with her lush vocals and raw harmonic resonance. Her sound has developed into an acoustic blend of Jazz and pop with sultry Indian and Arabic overtones—vibrant harmonies generously supporting songs carrying messages of hope, love and simple truths. Her deep wish is, “To use music as a tool to heal, comfort and inspire others to greatness” and notes that, "If I can give people the hope to believe in themselves, then my work has been accomplished.”

Well known in the Los Angeles music scene she has built a solid fan and her all female backing band includes critically acclaimed keyboardists Gail Jhonson and Cassondra O'Neal, bassist Nedra Wheeler, and saxophonist Cece Worrall Rubin all having have extensive credits with major artists and playing major venues. Champion Cellist Marston Smith and violinist Jim Sitterly also accompany Jacqui's recordings and performances.

Jacqui is an active member of jazz based Instrumental Women Project (IWP), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to showcasing women jazz musicians from around the world. She is also a member of Los Angeles Women in Music (LAWIM), a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to community outreach through music.

My influences include: Shirley Bassey, Sade, Seal, Annie Lennox, Prince, Kate Bush, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Rita Reyes. What sets my work apart from other artists is that I have spent years honing my craft by blending different generas of music togther: jazz, pop, folk, blues, world and soul. Together this gives my material a very unique sound. I began my career by sitting in with artists that had been playing jazz for 40 or more years, so my ear training started early, which I am grateful for. I have been writing my own songs for 10 years.
