Bio

Circa 1984, the line starts here, August 25 in Santo Domingo the capital of the Dominican Republic to be exact. Born to a rich Spanish heritage Jose Jae Es Sosa spent his first 7 years not knowing English and being raised solely to the sounds of Bachata and Merengue. In the early 90’s Antonio y Crucelina Sosa moved their child to Yonkers, NY where Jose discovered his eclectic choice of style and lyrics and eventually, his love for Hip-Hop.

Enter stage left, The Home of The Brave. In Yonkers, Jose had major adjusting to do. From transitioning from a part time to a full time big brother, learning English, and adjusting to a completely different environment. The corner of Elm and Oak, not far from Getty Square, became his stomping grounds, where the rules were drastically different from the world he left behind. Here, working for his father’s bodega Jose developed his strong foundation, and principles.

In 1998, Jae Es the artist emerged after he purchased his first hip-hop cassette from and up and coming local artist, DMX. Instantly, he fell in love with the art form and began to emulate the rapper, not to the liking of his parents who pushed for him to be different. The parental tug of war began to unfold over concerns of the influence the big city had over their sons. Tensions boiled, and yet again another big move was under way.

In 2000 Jose found himself in the Dominican Republic back to the same neighborhood, same street and same house; only now he was 14 years old and in a New York State of Mind. Flipping the switch from English to Spanish became harder than expected and after pushing and persuading for two years, Jose and Oliver were on their way back to the good ol’ U.S. of A. This time however to Vineland, New Jersey, where after 20 minutes of searching for it on a map, it becomes clear that it is far away from anything resembling NYC.

Once in Vineland, Jose enrolled in Farleigh Dickinson University, where he acquired knowledge of the business world and went on to create True Entertainment Records (TER). Filled with a lot of ambition, but lack of time TER was put on hold for a year. In 2005, Jae Es met Magillis who became his first artist. With newly found information on running a label, dreams, talent and dedication they began their mission to break into the music industry. The next logical step was to recruit artists, which proved to be very successful. Unfortunately, inexperience led to egos and problems within the group, eventually resulting in most of the members leaving to pursue solo ambitions. Fast forward to 2008, a newly assembled team gave birth to “The Truth Vol. 1 compilation mixtape. This milestone was short lived as Jae Es found himself at odds in his personal life and made his parent’s worst fear come true.

As a result, police executed search warrants at two apartments at 128 North Broadway in South Amboy on February 20, 2009, at 6 p.m. and seized the cash and the cocaine, estimated to have a street value of about $18,000. Arrested and charged with first-degree possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute the cocaine in a school zone were… and Jose Sosa (DOB 7/28/83) of 128 North Broadway, Apartment A. Bail was set at $250,000 for each of the defendants.

In this difficult time in his life, Jae Es has a renewed ambition for music and life. He has delivered an eye catching website, launched his own clothing line, a blog, and released the demo titled To Start or To Stop. The title, borrowed from Shakespeare’s to be or not to be, fits perfectly with the struggles he has faced. Now focused on recording his first solo project, one cannot begin to imagine the wonders and journey Jae Es has in store for the near future. This story has only begun, so stay tuned to see how it unfolds.
