There's a good chance you'll find songwriter, musician, lead singer and producer, Hil Jaeger of the groundbreaking act, JAEGER, in a small dark space, headphone ensconced, weaving complex electronic components on her laptop with her well-worn guitar in hand. As Jaeger manipulates laptop instruments, layers vocals and harmonies, and records each of the myriad instrument herself, she is scaffolding a complicated yet emotive architecture that finds cohesion in the cinematic landscape of her musical lexicon. Trained as a classical pianist and having formally studied composition, she was taken on at an early age to study under renowned pianist Marija Stroke and star contemporary composer Bruce Adolphe. At 17 she won Lincoln Center's Musicians Concert competition and performed at Alice Tully Hall. Jaeger's formal training honed her ear, sharpened her musical dexterity, and above all provided the musical vocabulary to connect the artistically innovative techniques of contemporary composition to a visceral and timeless emotional realm.
Submerging herself in the contemporary musical landscape, Jaeger found herself increasingly enthralled by the guttural and emotional sounds of Radiohead, Bjork, Coldplay and Sigur Ros. Already accomplished on acoustic guitar, Jaeger taught herself electric guitar, bass and proceeded to immerse herself in the complex tools of digital music's Protools, Reason, Ableton Live and the world of electronic recording, becoming her own producer. In 2008, at the age of 23, she self recorded, produced, arranged and played all instruments on the debut JAEGER EP. Catch Jaeger on stage and you'll be plunged into the powerful, emotional and enthralling musical landscape she creates as she sings, plays her electric Gibson Explorer and keys all to live drums and a multitude of vocal harmonies, instruments and arrangements that play simultaneously through her laptop.
