Bio

Jah Elect is a fresh, new voice in music, whose future is full of potential to refashion the reggae music scene. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, Elect is one of the most energizing American reggae artists to hit the scene in a long time. His journey into the realm of music was a long, winding one. Never a formally trained musician, Elect has used his experiences with various cultures and his heavy influence from a wide range of musical tastes to create a sound uniquely his. Elect began writing poetry and lyrics in middle school, and began publicly performing in Chicago while attending university, primarily at open mic events. During his time in Chicago, he also was fortunate enough to make a study abroad trip to Ghana, where he became immersed in the African rhythms and the culture of Rastafari.

After moving back to Florida, Elect attended Full Sail University to sharpen his musical ear and production abilities. Here saw the birth of Zion's Garden, as Elect collaborated with King Thayo and Asya to form a powerful trio who all continue in solo careers to this day. Jah Elect released his debut EP, The Answer, under Zion's Garden in 2009. This album made Elect a noteworthy name in the region and began the process of spreading his music to the world. The release featured the crowd favorites "My Friend", "Nice & Proper", and "Children & Youth". Since then he has primarily focused on live performing and has built a notable following throughout the Southeast. He has performed alongside some of the biggest names in the reggae industry including, Toots & The Maytals, Nadine Sutherland, The Wailers, Gyptian, I Octane, Pressure and more.

Currently he is working with James "Dr. Seuss" Lord of Irie Sounds International on his sophomore EP, Unconditional, to be released in the summer of 2015, as well as his debut full-length album due to follow. His first single in collaboration with Dr. Seuss is the Lover's Rock hit "When I Fell in Love" on the In Love Riddim, a project that also features reggae veterans Warrior King, Frankie Paul, Stevie Face, Fred Locks and more. As momentum builds, you can be sure Jah Elect is an act that you won't want to miss as his phoenix rises.
