"Gramaphone’s RMXs of JahofYork / NFT80 / Labbet and a full length featured album…Boyeeeee (THAILAND)"

I recently finished a remix for Finish band NFT80, titled Gramaphone’s Sledgehammer RMX. They have some real rockin tunes, and the voice of their female vocalist on their LOL track was so appealing that I couldn?t resist to do some nice damage to it. This remix is absolutely club friendly, however, with a more aggressive flair to it, in comparison to my other tracks. I then remixed JahofYork’s Top of My Brain, under the title Gramaphone’s Robot Pop RMX. He’s an excellent and talented vocalist. He threw me the track a couple months ago before departing from Bangkok to Amsterdam. I transformed this tune with an old-school hip-hop vibe, when break dancers performed on street corners to a giant boom box, before petty gang members marked their territory. I’ll be working on another remix, I’m Gonna Miss You When Your Gone by Swedish solo artist Labbet. This upcoming remix will be similar to my One Pink Saturday track in our Kitsch Cat/Kitsch Cat [Series 1] compilation.Another recent remix I did was for Talkless Transparent album recently released during November at Thai indie Fat Festival #9. The song that was remixed is My Scarlet Arms from Talkless’ first album.

Since the advent of the Ipod people’s listening habits have drastically changed. I’ve noticed, even myself, to be picking up bad habits with such a device. Not just with downloading free MP3s but not even listening to an entire album–shame on me! The convenience of having an abundant amount of music at my fingertips can be overwhelming, resulting in poor listening habits. My Ipod has become a slut and is suffering from venereal diseases induced by absurd amounts of shit music roaming amidst her hard drive. But now it has been reformatted and I now treat her like the Virgin Mary, with the uttermost respect by being selective of what enters her womb.
So, the point being–since the newer generation of tech savvy kids and music buffs lean more towards listening to music online, digital is the most logical way to pursue an album. Therefore, my full-length solo album Ah-huh Ah-huh will? be sold in digital format first, and in due time I will then make a small print of 200 hard copies, most probably only available in Thailand and through our Kitsch Cat official site. On the most part, CDs are nearing extinction. So I’m in the process of finding a company that will print vinyls for a reasonable price, if not, then CDs will be my alternative. If anyone knows of a company/person who is involved with printing vinyls, please let me know. Your help will be much appreciated and I’ll give you a free copy of the vinyl as well!
For those who would like to purchase our Kitsch Cat-Kitsch Cat [Series 1] compilation, you can now download all our tunes through Juno, Mix Mag, DJ Download as well as ring tones at Beemp3.com. Our tunes will soon be released on Beatport as well. The provided links below will guide you to each site. Thanks for supporting us, we love you all!

"THE JUMP PROJECT EXHIBITION- AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS (USA/NETHERLANDS)"

THE JUMP PROJECT EXHIBITION- AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2009 AT 02:50PM

Giving Thanks:

I want to thank all the individual contributors. Without your donations towards this exhibition, it wouldn't have happened. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me, this project, and it's goals. To my parents for your lifetime encouragement and blessings, to Christopher Dadap for your endless support, to Larry Kleiman at Spectral Masters Di, Inc. for the incredible hard work and fantastic job with the canvas prints, you really listened to my vision and made them come to life; to Margaretha Moerkerke for suggesting I submit my press kit in the first place, to the staff at the Melkweg Galerie for their wonderful expertise, assistance, warm welcome, and making my first international showcase a memorable one, to Suzanne Dechert and JahofYork for their inspirational speeches given at the reception party; to Greg Payton and Jerome Bourgeois for your loyal friendship and advice, to all the subjects that I've had the opportunity to photograph and continue to keep in contact with, most of you are my friends now and I'm proud to have you in my life; to the Association of Hispanic Arts, and to all the new faces I've met at the reception party.

2008-2009, The full scoop on The JUMP Project Exhibition- Amsterdam, The Netherlands

It's been more than a year that Suzanne Dechert, Director/Curator and I were coordinating my first solo exhibition to be displayed at the Melkweg Gallery in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A lot of people asked me how was I able to get my work shown at such a prestigious organization.

To put it briefly: I was in Amsterdam last spring and a colleague of mine suggested I get in contact with the gallery. She believed that my project would do very well in Amsterdam. I took her advice and when I got back to New York, I emailed the gallery explaining the project and asked if they showcase international photographers. Fortunately I got a request asking to mail additional information about The JUMP Project! So I submitted a press kit that contained photos, bio, artist statement, video, etc., and waited for a response. A few weeks after the submission, I got an email about having a solo exhibition during the summer of 2009!

I was thrilled, and from that point on, began non-stop organizing for the show. Everything from fundraising, working with my printer technician on the canvas prints, studying the galleries floor plan and figuring out what mounting system to use for the gallery, researching what is the best mounting system and buying it, applying for grants, getting fiscal sponsorship from the Association of Hispanic Arts, approving the postcard Minou designed, dealing with international shipment and worrying about UPS delaying the shipment (oh that is a whole other blog in itself), updating the website, photographing new subjects, proposing a television travel/photography reality show, booking flights/accommodations for two, email blasts, Facebook blasts, friends sending invitations, having a lot of dedication, hard work, belief, and sacrificing sleep.

Fastforward 2009 - The exhibition was a success.

My parents always say to have faith that everything will work out, and I did. Just two days before the reception party there was a bit of stress (not to mention that I was SO SLEEP DEPRIVED). Minou (Suzanne's assistant) kept teasing me saying how much faster she was working, and honestly I just didn't have the energy to compete with her.

JahofYork invited his colleagues from the music and entertainment industry. I also met a wonderful group of American students studying in Amsterdam, retired professors, artists, agents, etc. After the reception we had dinner at the Melkweg Cafe, and partied in central Amsterdam. This was surely a memorable experience.

FYI about the gallery: "The Melkweg is one of the most well-known cultural centers within and outside The Netherlands, and is unique because of a program that unites five artistic disciplines under one roof: music, dance/theatre, film, photography and media art. Concerts, dance events, theatrical and dance productions, films, media art presentations and photo exhibitions are staged in five halls and several small rooms. The Melkweg, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1970 when a Dutch theatre group discovered a deserted dairy factory in the center of Amsterdam.

Hard work, ambition and NLG 25,000 (about EUR 11,000) enabled the group to transform the factory into a meeting place, initially during the summer only. During the 1970s, the Melkweg became a household name and started developing more in terms of content, offering room for experiments relating to music, theatre, dance and film." "JAHOFYORK: URBAN ELECTRONIC SOUNDS (NETHERLANDS)"

JAHOFYORK: URBAN ELECTRONIC SOUNDS!published on 17-10-2009

The first frontier in JahOfYork's musical mark...The album include fusions of Jazz/Soul/Hip-hop vibes within the realms of Urban Electronica. Certain elements of Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova and Classical techniques are also integrated into the compilation. Stay Tuned, is bringing fourth constructive vocals and lyrics to fill your ears with bold, soothing, modern-sounds. The sound has been explained to be a blend of old-skool and nu-skool, pop of timeless proportion with various sensibilities with regards to genre. Stay Tuned is definitely distinct in many ways, yet each song shares links of a larger and fresher unified fusion ideology.

"Now, it was my first time grabbing a microphone in almost five years so, I totally didn't know where my vocals would land. I lent my voice to two tracks that night if I remember correctly, 'What If Featuring Jamie Flexx' and 'Hold The Key Featuring PashaThaEmcee'. From then on, it was all a compatibility of clicking chemistry. I found myself spending a lot of time, almost every weekend at Shine's until the birth of my first solo song with him, 'NY2Amsterdam'. This was the birth of the Stay Tuned concept..."

Biography:

JahOfYork, born in the region of the Bronx on New Years Eve was originally raised in New York City. As rare as it may sound, this American of African descant and Antillean heritage was adopted to a Latino family at the tender age of three years. After the diagnosis of his biological mother's mental instability to care for him, and absence of his birth father, young Jah was voluntarily adopted and welcomed into the home of a loving Puerto Rican mother, Dominican father and their three children.

In his earlier years, he sang for the CityKids Repertory Company which is known for their collaborations with Disney, Jim Henson and the American channel, Nickelodeon. He has trained with New York's Harlem School of the Arts founded by world-renowned soprano Dorothy Maynor; and received private lessons from the coach of Making The Band 4. His aunt Jacci McGhee always provided him with words of inspiration as a vocalist from day one. Jacci was the original duet voice in Keith Sweat's "Make It Last Forever", SaltNPepers "Expressions" and also contributed to rock group Toto and Family Stand.

In summer 2000, his choir won a first place title in the McDONALD'S U.S.A. NATIONAL GOSPEL COMPETITION. Later that same year, JahOfYork was a principle voice in the Millennium Italian nationwide tour celebration, which the DVD `All-Star Christmas - From the Vatican' derived from (released in 2004).

In recent years, Jah has been constructing an intricate musical endeavor between his hometown, New York City and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. All of his own original songs have been built up and developed with the support of Dutch and international musicians, singers, engineers, lyricists, and residents. Signed, sealed and delivered with care for those embracing Urban Electronica sounds and fusion, the "Stay Tuned" album and concept contains all of JahOfYork's own original works lyrically, melodically and harmonically. Yes, every layered vocal IS his own!

Some might only know this Nu-Yorker as a vocalist/performer but you MAY have formerly seen him on MTVs 'Boiling Points' playing an innocent trick on his bestfriend at a New York Delicatessen, some years back. Perhaps in 2008 when he co-presented in a worldwide National Geographic documentary called 'Ultimate Taboo'. More recently, his image was featured in an exhibition called `The Jump Project' at the Melkweg Gallery; with yet another appearance in a promo-clip for the new and improved Heineken Experience Museum, both in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Download masterpieces and `Stay Tuned' to JahOfYork as he makes his first official musical mark on Apple's iTunes platform on August 10, 2009.

"Op naar de grote finale van SongPop 2008! (NETHERLANDS)"

Thaïsa Olivia bracht haar jazzy nummer ‘How do you know’ met klasse.

- R-Themus Music (http://www.r-themus.com/op-naar-de-grote-finale-van-songpop-2008/)

Bio

JahOfYork, a true vocalist at heart, began nurturing his gift of singing at the age of 12. Through dedication and perseverance, JahOfYork developed constructive vocals and lyrics to fill your ears with bold, soothing soul-sounds. Based on true-life scenarios and personal experiences, JahOfYork undoubtedly bangs speakers, eases, and pleases to keep you tuned!

Born in the region of the Bronx on New Years Eve, JahOfYork was raised in New York City. As rare as it may sound, this American of African descent and Antillean heritage, was adopted at the tender age of three, and welcomed into the home of a loving Puerto Rican mother, Dominican father, and their three children.

In his earlier years, he sang for the CityKids Repertory Company, which is known for their collaborations with Disney, Jim Henson and the American channel, Nickelodeon. He has trained with New York's Harlem School of the Arts, and received private lessons from the coach of America's Making The Band 4. In summer 2000, his choir won a first place title in the McDONALD'S U.S.A. NATIONAL GOSPEL COMPETITION. Later that same year, JahOfYork was a principle voice in the Millennium tour celebration in Italy, from which the DVD All-Star Christmas - From the Vatican (2004) derived.

JahOfYork's aunt Jacci McGhee, who provided the original duet vocals in Keith Sweat's "Make It Last Forever" and SaltNPeper's "Expressions", always provided him with words of inspiration as a vocalist from day one. His other influences stem from deep roots in Jazz, Pop, Hip Hop, Latin and Nu-Wave Electronica...classic sounds like Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Michael Jackson and newer movements like J*Davey, Eric Roberson, Lady GaGa, Beyonce and Ryan Leslie.

Since 2005, JahOfYork has been constructing an intricate musical endeavor between his hometown and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. All of his own original songs have been built up and developed with the support of Dutch and international musicians, singers, sound engineers, lyricists, and residents. Surprisingly, he was able to connect his personal experiences with a very contrasting yet, representative musical path. An electric experience of Pop, Nu-Jazz and Trip-Hop with a show-tuney ambiance. All written by JahOfYork and produced simply with his own drive, and international peers of equal vision. Every bit of his blood, sweat, tears and journey overseas is represented in his album project. Signed, sealed and delivered with care for those embracing Urban Electronica and fusion, the long-awaited "Stay Tuned" album and concept was digitally released in 2009. The project contains all of JahOfYork's own original works, lyrically, melodically and harmonically. Yes, every layered vocal IS his own!

Some might only know this New Yorker as a vocalist and performer, but some of you MAY have also seen him on MTVs Boiling Points playing an innocent trick on his bestfriend at a New York Delicatessen, some years back. Or perhaps in 2008 when he co-presented in a worldwide National Geographic documentary called Ultimate Taboo. A year later, his image was featured in an exhibition called ‘The Jump Project’ at the Melkweg Gallery; followed by yet another appearance in a promo-clip for the new and improved Heineken Experience Museum, both in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Following the release of "Stay Tuned", JahOfYork immediately got to work on his next project "Il Teknologie", which made its debut in 2010. This seven-track EP is a playful mix of Pop, Nu-Jazz and Electronic-Soul with a futuristic twist... Toying with the many dynamics of sound, JahOfYork uses different facets of technology to create a whole new experience that goes way beyond just music. With two tracks from his first project reconceptualized for this offering, "Il Teknologie" has the right amount of funk and the unexpected for the ultimate cosmic ascension.

“Stay Tuned...In the midst of all struggles and pursuits of happiness, stay tuned to yourself, your family, your God, hiphop, jazz and soul.” -JahOfYork
