Bio
If some are leafs, and some are branches, Jah Witness would without dout fall into the catogory of Roots... JAH WITNESS: "There's no justice, it's just us." From parts unknown, Jah Witness travels the earth as a messenger, spreading the word, sound, and power of reggae culture. Highly skilled as a vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, binghi drumsmith, craftsman, farmer, and philosopher it seems he shall never grow weary of his life's work. He can be found as far north as Vermont, and as far south as the Florida Keys. He appeared in our circle just long enough to record the song "Criminals" for the Jah Creation CD. And then, just as quickly as he was here, he was gone. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN? (Jah Creation N.C.) Jahwitness was formed in Santa Cruz California in 1991-92. Jahwit had been traveling the country with a band called Grass or Grasstafari(as some knew them) Leaving out of Phila Pa, they had made their way across the country only to have the van the band was traveling in blow the motor. Jahwit ended up living out of a cave in Santa Cruz, with only his Bible, a bass(which he played at the time) and some clothes. It was here that Jahwitness was formed. Jahwit met a elder Rasta Bredren named Bongo Song Bird, who strengthened his faith, and also tought him about nyabinghi. It was Jahwit (Matthew at that time) and Bird who started up Jahwitness, and started writing songs only about Jah. Although the " Grass " members were dread, and played some reggae, they also dealt with some slackness... It was here that Jahwit livicated his life to God, and the two of them(Jahwit and Bird) traveled the west coast writing songs, and soon other members were added. Enter the original Ghetto Lions...Jahwit moved to riddim guitar, as he tired from backing frontmen, he felt did not carry the right message...Tim T took over on bass, and younger brother Michael T. on lead guitar. After a bout with various drummers, Mike Shaffer(Ras Michael) took over on drums, on organ, Jason Moyer was added. From here the band bounced around, playing shows, from Colorado, Cali, Washington,Oregon,Dakotas,ect... ending up in the Fort Lauderdale, Miami Fla area. Eventually the band ended up full circle in Phila, where some early recordings were done. Also other early recordings were made at a studio in V.A. It was here that the Original Ghetto Lions went their seperate ways, but Jahwitness continued to play with various line ups. Some of which were, Ghetto lions, Uplifters, Creation, Roots United, Jah Creation, Jah Vibes, Axum....Jah Witness also started building up a reggae studio (Red Lion Studio) it is a studio full of vintage sound gear, strickly for recording conscious reggae vibes. If you are a reggae artist looking to do some recording, feel free to give a link. Also, I n I are always looking for session players. Jahwit had been on a bit of a break, busy with family life, but has recently decided to start playing out again, so stay tuned... Well nuff said, Jah Bless and Itect, Haile Selassie 1st
