"Local artist turns mentor"

When Jair Dynast was in school Black History Month meant someone would come in and speak for a few minutes and then walk out the door.

Now 31, the recording artist is using his music and experience to connect with young people and make them think. Partnering with the TDSB, Dynast is visiting different schools across the city to perform songs that touch on the topics of peer pressure, violence and history.

“I’m younger and I can relate,” says Dynast. “I come from the same neighbourhood they come from, I’m dealing with the same sort of experiences or have dealt with the same experiences.” Dynast grew up in the city’s west end before moving to Scarborough for his senior year in high school. “It’s almost like looking at a mirror image of someone who was them and now here I am doing this.” One of the songs he performs is Art of Invention which talks about various African American inventors that many don’t know about. Dynast leaves behind pamphlets so students can find more information and get kids involved on a different level.

“The response is great especially with The Art of Invention … they really become engaged in the discussion; they ask me a lot of questions,” he said. “To be honest they’re very articulate and intelligent. Even though they’re young, they’re very aware of what’s going on and they have a lot to offer.”

While taking his message to Toronto schools throughout the month, Dynast is working on his third album. His new track, “My Style” is set to hit the airwaves Feb. 24. - 24 Hours Newspaper (Toronto)

"VIALENCE TOP 10 RECORD OF THE YEAR"

9) Jair Dynast – Vialence

Vialence, which stands for Vicious Ignorance Amounts to Little Except Negative Consequences n' Expression, is an impressive collection of songs that have some social concern in them and showcase a lot of lyrical ability, as well. The production style of Vialence is also pretty unique as it encompasses the influences of all of the places Dyanast has called home, including Toronto, Barbados, Connecticut and Texas. Overall it's a fantastic launching pad for a talented artist. (myspace.com/jairdynast)

"JAIR DYNAST IS WELL ON HIS WAY TO BECOMING ONE OF HIP-HOP’S MOST PROLIFIC ARTISTS"

Hip-hop has been improving for quite some time, and it’s steadily on an up-spiral. More artists are holding themselves accountable for what they have to say and offer, and they are consequently putting our more socially conscious music that not only feeds their fanbase in the streets, but also teaches the youth who are also listening closely.

Jair Dynast is definitely among the handful of newer artists that are out to gain something more than a pocket full of money and a few screaming fans. His debut, “V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E”, is sure to strike a chord with many hip-hop fans. Just release less than a month ago, he’s already impacting the lives of many who have had the chance to cop it.

His track “The Intro” caught me right from the start. Not your typical track, in this song, Jair utilizes words beginning with “IN” throughout the track as a way of bringing us all into his world of poetry. Like many others before him, he talks about the struggles that come along with growing up within the inner city on tracks like “Profiling” and “Change”, yet, he does it in a tactful way that isn’t so forced and overbearing. Much of the album has a strong educational factor, and you know that he’s not just coming off the top of his head, but really coming from his heart and giving us true accounts in his music.

Other gems throughout “V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E.” (which by the way, stands for “Viscious Ignorance Amounts to Little Except Negative Consequences N’ Expressions”) include “Spread Love”, “Vicious”, “Converse”, and “Can’t Wait”, which has become the theme song for “Make Some Noise”, a new mini-series airing on C.B.C. Television network.

Jair Dynast is well on his way to becoming one of hip-hop’s most prolific artists. The album is definitely worth checking out for any true hip-hop fan. - Urbanconnectionz & SoundSlam

"BRILLIANT DIVERSE AND ABOVE ALL FRESH!"

Now here is something different from the well-respected eMultimedia imprint. Jair is a relatively new artist who I haven’t come across before but will be definitely checking for again. This two track single that has landed through my door has given me inspiration in believing that real Hip-Hop music is still alive. ‘Vicious’ is a real original sounding atmospheric beat with Jair’s words of wisdom sitting well. The flipside track ‘Pull Up’ is my personal favourite with lyrics that remind me of a young Chuck D. ‘This ain’t a track I made for introspection’/’But I’m publishing knowledge like them Britannica collections/’Too many of us dying from unprotected erections’/’So we got bigger issues than George Bush winning elections’. With killer bars like that I am sure that Jair Dynast is gonna be one huge MC on the underground. Brilliant, diverse and above all its all fresh! - UKHH

"ARTISTS LIKE THIS KEEP HIP-HOP ALIVE!"

‘Vicious’ is a deep solid banger from Jair’s ‘V.I.A.L.N.C.E (Vicious Ignorance Amounts to Little Except Negative Consequences n’ Expression)’. This rapper is on a positive uplifting tip and with killer flows and lyrics, and here he gives us all something to think about with some controversial issues raised. The other track included here ‘Pull Up’ is more ‘club friendly’ production wise and bangs more. Both tracks come with radio edits and instrumentals. Jair is gonna be a man to watch out for over these forthcoming years. Artists like this keep Hip-hop music alive.

"THE NEXT BIG THING FROM NEW YORK? QUITE POSSIBLY."

A New-York underground phenomenon that is Jair Dynast, is poised to set the UK on fire, with his release of V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E. While an unknown name to most, Jair Dynast has already had his single Vicious (flipside Pull Up), topping various charts in the US, and received major praise from several magazines.

V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E is a mixture of real-life experiences, as Jair Dynast is quoted “Sadly, I have to say the verses on Vicious are motivated by true events from my turf. Basically since slavery we have been a divided people, psychologically trained in the art of self hate. Differently we as human beings hate each other. We divide ourselves into these groups based on colour and/or race, creed, financial statues etc and proceed t persecute each other for not being a member of what's perceived as the superior class”. Tracks such as “Vicious”, “Pull Up”, and “Change Ft. Azaria”, all are thought-provoking epics, beautifully portrayed by Jair in a fine display of lyricism.

Jair Dynast's pin-point flow, and cutting-edge lyrics are shown throughout the album. From the very first track “Intro”, to the final track “My People”, Jair shows his ability to produce vivid imagery, mixed with a range of emotion and feeling within his voice. The diversity in the album is also refreshing, with the club hit “Pull Up”, to the self-conscious “Promise”, Jair never fails to deliver, and only one of the few reasons of his recent exposure. Sources such as DMC, SkaterRap.Com, Soundslam and Heavy Contact have only praise or Jair Dynast, and cements his status as one of the upcoming artists in the rap game today.

The album continues to produce nothing but excellence, with tracks such as “Feeling Like A G”, and “Cant Wait, with both contributions proving to be instrumental in the diversity of the album. The professionalism remains untouchable, as production is executed to the highest degree, and the beatmaking is excellent. The combination along with Jair's razor-sharp rapping is the perfect blend that so many artists can only dream of. V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E (Vicious Ignorance Amounts To Little Except Negative Consequences N Expression), is exactly as the title suggests. Thought-provoking, and innovative rap at it's best.

V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E is making big moves, in an era where Hip-Hop needs something as refreshing as Jair Dynast. The next big thing from New York? Quite possibly. The range of topics on the tracks of V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E makes this album a good listen to almost everybody. Get it while it's hot, a very solid release from a promising artist.

Bio

As an inner city youth of Caribbean heritage, Jair Dynast saw both sides of urban life. He saw the dark-side of a city struggling with a growing crime rate and an increasing population of young people being raised in single parent homes. Fortunately for Jair, he also saw a city rich with culture as his family fought hard to expose him to an eclectic mix of music in his household and outside. As a young boy of barely seven or eight years old, he was taken to free outdoor concerts at Ontario Place to hear “Chuck” Mangione, Ashford & Simpson and Roberta Flack.

The music at home ranged from Mahalia Jackson’s gospel to Earl Klugh, Bob Marley, Minnie Riperton, Roberta Flack, Santana, Stevie Wonder and classical pieces from Bach, Strauss, Oscar Peterson, amongst others. There was always the staple music of calypso and reggae as a child of Caribbean parents. Therefore, you could say that music was indelibly implanted in his soul like a micro-chip.

All of this music exposure must have subconsciously shaped the chart-topping rapper/producer as he evolved from adversity to diversity. After his athletic basketball scholarship was made obsolete by an undiagnosed heart condition, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Jair Dynast activated his musical micro-chip and went to work crafting his own unique blends of hip hop, reggae, techno and R&B beats that are as original as they are uncategorized while still being commercially viable.

Following the top 5 single "SnakeEyes", Jair's debut solo album V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E. produced the single "Vicious" which nabbed the highly coveted #1 spot on the Top 30 Grassroots Hip-Hop Charts at Rapattacklives.com surpassing peers like Talib Kweli and Jim Jones. Another single "Promise" climbed to the #8 spot in the Top 100 Most Wanted category on Radio 1 in Greece while "Can't Wait" was chosen theme song for CBC TV's "Make Some Noise" documentary Television Series.

Jair Dynast performed the top singles from V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E. for an audience at Crash Mansion in New York City for the CMJ Music Marathon 2007. The CMJ music conference has selected Jair to perform both times he has applied. The album is now critically acclaimed and Jair Dynast has received coverage worldwide in Hip-Hop Connection Magazine, Knowledge Magazine, Blues & Soul, as well as his native Barbados national newspaper The Nation, amongst others. Online you can find features and interviews on such sites as SoundSlam, UKHH, Urbnet, HipHop.ch, HipHopCanada, IllHill, MVRemix, Rago Magazine, Urban Connectionz and many more. The socially conscious album V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E. was also chosen one of the Top Ten Albums of the Year by RapReviews.

Jair Dynast recently collaborated with Latin-American rapper, MC Magic who had a number of songs on Billboard's Top 50. Produced by Jair, the song is expected to impact radio nationwide in 2009 and will add a new dimension to MC Magic's already popular talkbox sound (given to him by Roger Troutman of Zapp) that is similar to auto-tune now made famous by T-Pain.

Jair Dynast is set to continue engaging his constantly growing international fan base with his monthly Vanguard Series. His innovative, metaphor-laden style of rap continues to live up to what some music critics refer to as “one of Hip Hop's most prolific artists”. The Vanguard series is already getting rave reviews with the buzz single "Simple Plan" making the rounds on top rap music blogs.

“Simple Plan” has already gone viral since its release via video in October 2008 gaining thousands of views on Imeem(4k+), Vimeo(16k+) and YouTube(11k+) and is available on iTunes among other major online retailers worldwide. His next single, the lighthearted yet intelligent streetwear anthem “My Style”, is already on deck as Jair Dynast recently wrapped shooting the video. Expected January 2009, anyone who loves rap music, the blending of Hip Hop, skater and street wear cultures will fall in love with the gritty flows, infectious hook and booming 808s on “My Style”. With monthly releases scheduled from The Vanguard Series expect to hear and see Jair Dynast everywhere!
