Bio

Jair-Rohm Parker Wells is an American bassist, composer, programmer, conceptualist and record producer. Recently relocated to Chonburi Thailand, he is widely recognized as a highly individual voice on the electric bass guitar, Ashbory bass, NSD electric double bass and acoustic bass guitar. He has also distinguished himself as a clinician (demonstrating at the Frankfurt Musik Messe and the Los Angeles NAMM show for Hohner and Steinberger), programmer and synthesist developing with Max/MSP, Csound and Java. As a record producer and composer, he has collaborated with many prominent figures such as Reeves Gabrels, Jaron Lanier, Rhys Chatham, Iris Lord, John Sinclair, Olaf Rupp and many others. He is the recipient of commissions from prestigious institutions such as Stockholms Stadsteatern and New York's MEET THE COMPOSER. He is featured as leader on recordings from Red Toucan Records ("Steamroom Variations"), Ayler Records ("Meditations on Albert Ayler", "Broherly Love in Philadelphia") and MuWorks ("Coming Together").

He currently leads a number of bands which serve as platforms for his musical vision. His "The Sonic Liberation Orchestra" is an ensemble which performs both the compositions of Jair-Rohm Parker Wells and sets of free-form improvisation. The members of the group are:

Katt Hernandez - violin
Daniel Carter - reeds and trumpet
Peeter Uuskyla - drums
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells - basses and electronics

"The Jair-Rohm Parker Wells Trio" is a free-improvising unit that never ceases to amaze with its endless creativity and breadth. From Jazz to Rock to Funk and beyond. Check out their Ayler Records release "Brotherly Love in Philadelphia". The members are:

Elliott Levin - sax, flute and voice
Eric Slick - drums
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells - basses and electronics

"Ex Aequo" is another group led by Jair-Rohm Parker Wells which combines composition with improvisation. The group is a composing collective and, unlike the Sonic Liberation Orchestra, compositional duties are shared among the group's members.

Daniel Carter - reeds, trumpet
Burton Greene - piano
Klaus Kugel - drums
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells - basses

"Quartet" is the free-improvising quartet that features some of the most distinguished names in the post-Ayler progressive Jazz spectrum.

Daniel Carter - reeds and trumpet
Bern Nix - guitar
Marc Edwards - drums
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells - bass

Finally, a project which will debut on tour in the UK this June, "Song of Miriam - Reflections on the Music of Kurt Weill". This avant-garde Jazz "super group" showcases Jair-Rohm's arrangements of the songs Kurt Weill. The group features some of the most respected names on the British improvising scene:

Shabaka Hutchings - reeds
Tony Bianco - drums
Burton Greene - piano
Lene Lovich - vocals
Ian Smith - trumpet and flugelhorn
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells - basses and electronics
and special guests.
