"Cambridge Folk Festival"

Later on the Club Tent offers the massively impressive Jake Cogan, yet another of the new British folk voice emerging at the moment, - Americana UK

"Edinburgh Festival"

What really hit me most from the beginning, unprepared, unassuming, was a beautiful, mellifluous voice that seemed to spring forth from the depths of a trance, like rolling mist over Scottish glens. Jake Cogan and her five piece band played a gorgeous, folkish set, with an alt-country feel, soft and drifting, with rich vocal harmonies and lead melodies sitting over faultless rhythmic playing. Plus one for the guitarist-cum-mandolinist in the Bellray's tee, by the way. As the whooping audience of familiars seemed to corroborate, I wouldn't ever be able to tire of the lilting sounds she gave voice to, spectral and rich, and the space of a paltry review can't really do Cogan (and band) the justice deserved. - Three Weeks

‘If Scotland were looking for a successor to Karine Polwart, and I'm not suggesting it is, Jake Cogan must surely be on the shortlist for an interview.’

Bio

Jake Cogan and The Liberty Roses are a contemporary, alternative country/folk outfit. Their material is at times dark and introverted, at others witty, humorous and reflective of both their Scottish roots and perceptions of the world in which they inhabit. The line up including a Midwestern fiddler have musical backgrounds steeped in versatility. Combining intricate and innovative instrumentation with layers of rich vocals and complex vocal harmonies, the band have a unique genre crossing style derived from individual and varied musical backgrounds and influences.

With influences ranging from Jackson Browne and Tom Waits to Bjork, Nirvana and Velvet Underground-they draw on a wide range of refrences, arriving at their own destinctive sound which never fails to move, evoke emotion and impress audiences wherever they go.

In April 2008 Jake released her first EP, 'Honest Mirror', produced by Boo Hewerdine(Eddi Reader, KD Lang) and Mark Freegard(The Breeders, Del Amitrie)

In 2008 the band opened for Preston Reid, played Glasgow Americana Festival with Crooked Still, opened for Kris Drever of LAU and Rod Clements of Lindesfarne at the String Jam Club in Galasheils.

In 2009 the band went into hibernation in order to record their debut album at Castle Sound Recording Studio near Edinburgh. Having now completed the album produced by Marc Pilley of Hobotalk, Jake and The Liberty Roses plan to release the album in 2010 with a tour to follow.

Whilst recording the album they recieved a few offers very difficult to turn down-one auspicious chance to open for Dick Gaughan at a folk club in the Scottish Borders. After hitting it off with the acclaimed Singer/Songwriter and Producer, Jake now has plans to record with Dick in 2010.
2009 again saw Jake open shows for worldwide songwriting legends such as Kimmie Rhodes(Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings)

Festival performances at Moniavie, Cambridge Folk Festival, Loch Lomond, Knockengorroch, a sell out show during the Edinburgh Festival and finally Belladrum Tartan Heart festival rounded up the festival season with Jake and the band building on a rapidly growing reputation for being one of Scotlands most entertaining and engaging live acts, whilst the 'Honest Mirror' EP was being picked up by several local radio programmes and Dj's.
