Modern Post Bop Jazz. Hanlon is recognized as a fresh voice in Canadian Jazz as a Guitarist and Composer working to bring Modern Jazz to the Canadian Public after releasing his Debut recording on Armored Records in late 2010.

Biography

Performer, Composer and Educator, Jake Hanlon currently resides in Antigonish Nova Scotia, a Professor of Music at Saint Francis Xavier University.

A Native of Nova Scotia Canada, Hanlon has had the opportunity to work some some of the brightest and talented students and teachers in the World. In 2003 he graduated with Honors from Saint Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. In 2007 he was hired as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas.

As a Band leader Hanlon has been able to consistently put together Trios and Quartets to highly favorable reviews from Jazz fans in the areas he's worked. "Modern" and "Sophisticated with respect for the tradition" have been words to describe his bands. While simultaneously was exclaimed by to "A Smooth Rider" by the Legendary Curtis Fuller upon hearing Hanlon playing some Blues at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Later in early 2010 Jazz guitar Icon Vic Juris stated that Hanlon has "the brightest of futures." after a performance they gave together.
