"Jake Klar"

Jake Klar is a young, unsigned (we think) singer songwriter/Americana artist, of whom I am struggling to find much information. His music is a deceptively simple blend of finger picked guitar and wistful vocals, which is occasionally punctuated by a desperate rasp. Fans of The Tallest Man on Earth, Joe Pug and Bob Dylan are guaranteed find something they like here. If this debut is anything to go by then he could be mentioned alongside such acts (alright, maybe not Dylan) in the near future. Klar recently released his debut, a self-titled EP which contains seven stellar tracks. - Wake The Deaf

"Jake Klar – Where I’ll Be Tonight"

There seems to be a new crop of very young, very talented folk songwriters and I’m happy to have found a few of them, and some of which have found me. Either way, I’m really excited to have gotten to hear Amherst Massachusetts by way of Woodbury Connecticut’s Jake Klar.

I’d say budding young troubadour Jake Klar’s music can be described as quite reminiscent of Joe Pug, it’s pretty simple, add some Appalachian folk feel, weeping steel guitars, finger picking and a voice that’s far beyond his years and you get Jake Klar. Now, just because I’m boiling him down to those simple core concepts doesn’t for a second mean he’s not worth listening to. Because, he most certainly is. Klar’s raspy deep voice reminds of Dylan, or a little like Kristian Matsson (Tallest Man on Earth). His music is definitely in the crooning troubadour fashion, it feels lonely, a little sad, but his voice soothes the ear, and the subtle guitar draws you in with warm, down-home tones. Check out single “Where I’ll Be Tonight,” straight from his self titled EP which was recently released.

Grab his new EP which is free on bandcamp, and expect to hear more of his music here, in the future. - Music Savage

Bio

"...this kid has some serious talent waiting to be discovered." - ONErpm.com

"If he isnt searching for records in junk shops or yard sales he's probably writing 'em" .. Although he is a young, up-and-coming singer-songwriter, Jake Klar sings and writes with an old soul.
Based out of Northampton, MA, he released his debut EP in April 2012, even though he had already been playing around the country for some years, particularly in the northeast and Texas. He was a finalist at the 2012 CT Folk Festival Songwriting Competition and has supported acts like Iris Dement, Poor Old Shine, and Toby Walker.

As a performer Jake is natural, genuine and commanding on stage, common responses from audiences are “powerful” and “moving”. As a songwriter and musician he has been influenced by everything, however Folk, Country, Americana, Blues, R&B, Soul and Roots music are the strongest influences. To pick a few artists from his well of learning - Roscoe Holcomb, Townes Van Zandt, R.L. Burnside, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Roger Miller.
