"CD/album Review by Tim Staump (USA)"

Jake Lloyd Jones…Even his name has soul! His album "Just Like That," is filled with a rockin' dose of real life situations; the good the bad and the ugly. Jake's "rough around the edges" voice is perfect for his bluesy music and his "reality check" lyrics. Jake is unique because he doesn't stick to one particular sound. His first track sounds completely different from his second, and so on.

Every song on this album has great instrumentation, and Jake maintains a standard of amazing lyrics with his ability to create an image in the listener's mind with every word. He is just a lot of fun to listen to! The whole CD is very personal, like you are sittin' on the porch with Jake after a long day just making some music. Staump.com highly recommends everyone to take a listen to this great artist. Thanks Jake Lloyd Jones! - www.staump.com

"Jumpin' Jake Flash"

Jake Lloyd Jones does not hesitate when asked what inspires his award-winning songs.

“Life and God,” he said.

“There is so much out there...on the news or when you talk to people...so much to write about.

“I have faith in the 'Big Fella' and that has got me out of some sticky things in life.”

The Scarborough resident has made a comeback to the music industry with a bang, scoring an ARIA nomination for best blues and roots album with his album Just Like That!.

He had given professional music up for a business career after touring as backing guitarist and support act.

However, Mr Lloyd Jones picked up the guitar again when he was diagnosed with a neuro-immuno condition and his specialist recommended playing as therapy.

A Redcliffe Arts and Entertainment Award for Best Original Composition soon followed, as well as a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant to produce Just Like That!.

“That really got the ball rolling the award and the grant,” he said.

Mr Lloyd Jones said he had changed as a person since he last played professionally and that had changed his music.

“I am older and hopefully a little wiser as well,” he said.

While the album was released in 2007, Mr Lloyd Jones was nominated for an ARIA award this year...

He said he was just happy with the nomination.

“The nomination may be all I get out of it but to get that is a nice recognition,” he said.

"Jake was a finalist..."

Jake Lloyd Jones was a finalist in the 2004 Fretfest singer-songwriter competition, and for good reason. His music was accessible and enjoyable, easy to listen to, and his lyrics were insightful and at times touching. In particular I found his tribute to 911 entitled “THE MOOD CHANGED” stood out, it was head & shoulders above many others. As a professional, Jake was easy to work with, and he spoke eloquently both on stage and to camera (off stage), comfortable expressing himself he captured the essence of Fretfest and portrayed his experience as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and social commentator.

"Album Review...'Just Like That'"

"My first contact with Jake Lloyd Jones was at the 2005 Redcliffe Arts and Entertainment Awards, where he won the Best Original Composition Award. I met him again at the 2006 Margate Festival, where he performed as one of the featured artists. I found his performance refreshingly different from the run of the mill pub and club entertainers that frequent the Brisbane circuit.

His latest album 'Just Like That!' is challenging, for here is an artist, who like the great Bob Dylan is not only a keen observer of his times, but is prepared to be critical of them as well.

His words are meaningful, his music complimentary and his gravel edged voice effectively melds the two idioms together. If you want to enjoy an entertaining musical commentary of where we are today – buy the album...."

"To whom it may concern..."

"...Hardrush Music first became aware of Jake when his first CD: 'Just Like That!' was recorded, upon which, we commenced distribution initially to local bookstores and independent music retailers. We knew the product was very good and Jake; a very creative, yet pragmatic singer-songwriter...Radio airplay has been achieved in Australia, Canada, Germany, Norway, Sweden, UK and USA. This has confirmed our confidence in Jake's ability to create a truly international standard recording, and one that he, Queensland and we at Hardrush are proud of, as this has been achieved without touring..."

Bio

Jake began playing guitar at 10 years of age...In a duo with brother, singing in talent quests for crates of cola / movie tickets etc.

He took it up more seriously at 19...going on the road as a backing guitarist /support singer for known national entertainment celeb.

Got bored with that...got into folk & Blues clubs and sold a few tunes to local recording artists.

Got signed by several publishers including Chappell, and did radio/TV appearances as song-writer, but dropped out of the industry before he really got established. Was a top10 finalist in major national song comps in both NZ and Aust...

Kicked a few local goals 'round the place, including 'Best Original Composition' in a Regional Arts Awards, and a Government Arts Grant to record.

A distributor picked up his album and he's now looking for concert/festival gigs/tours, or as 'Opening Act' for Established band/Duo etc. Jake also has a handful of ballad-type songs for sale...write and ask for samples.

In 2008 his CD 'Just like That!' was a nomination for "Best Blues and Roots" album, of the year in the ARIA awards (National recording Industry awards)
