Bio

Washington, D.C. resident KnowTruth has a ferocious appetite for speaker-thumping beats, crowd-pleasing songs, and mind-blowing wordplay. The 24-year-old rapper, producer and Jazz pianist describes his style as a mesh of jazz, rock, hip-hop and gospel.
The Oakland, Calif.-native grew up in a musical family, and began honing his producing, rapping and piano skills while in high school. The rapper thanks his father, who is a jazz musician, for his love of music. “My music is a lot more intricate because of his influence,” said Truth. This intricacy may be one of Truth’s greatest assets, allowing him to be unique in a time when a number of producers and rappers are utilizing simple “snap” beats and auto-tune.
The move from California to Washington, D.C. was not an easy one, however, the producer adapted to the city quickly, combining his California-style with D.C. swagger. Ultimately, this location change gave Truth’s music an East Coast meets West Coast flair.
In 2004, the rapper released his first CD titled True Life to Live. This album was audaciously original in both musicality and lyrical content. On most of the songs Truth‘s rough rap style and powerful beats were soothed by smooth yet intricate r&b vocals. “The album was very strong and introspective,” said the young rapper.”
That same year, Frontline: The Preview was released, featuring a rapper named Capitol P. “This album was broader. The music was rugged and street. It also included something for the ladies,” Truth said, comparing the two albums.
Truth’s upcoming album, The World is My Corner, mixes his East Coast/West Coast flair with subject matter that will make you bob your head, dance, or stop and think. Pick up your copy of The World is My Corner this Fall. Get to Know Truth!
